DO NOT LOSE THIS PACKET! The following syllabus contains the IB Physics Topics/Options and subtopics that we will cover
throughout the year, as well as corresponding sections in our textbook. There is 1 or more Problem Set(s) assigned to each IB
Topic/Option.







Each problem set is worth 25 points.
As we progress through the school year, I will announce when each Problem Set is due.
On the day it is due, I will collect them all AT THE BEGINNING OF THE PERIOD.
I will then select 5 problems (occasionally 6 or 7) that I will grade.
I will grade the same 5 problems for all students in the class.
Each section of IB Physics may have a different set of 5 problems randomly chosen.
Students may turn in Problem Sets late, losing 20% of the points earned if submitted up to 1 day late, and an additional 10%
for each additional day. A different set of 5 problems may be randomly chosen for all Problems Sets that are turned in late.
Since you will not have nightly homework assignments from the textbook, it is of the utmost importance that you are working on the
Problem Sets regularly. Very little time, if any, will be spent during class discussing these homework problems. DO NOT PUT OFF
COMPLETING ALL THE PROBLEMS UNTIL THE NIGHT BEFORE THEY ARE DUE! THERE WILL BE QUIZZES WITH
THESE SAME TYPES OF PROBLEMS DURING EACH UNIT, OFTEN BEFORE THE PROBLEM SET IS DUE.
Although I realize you that many of you will solve these problems in small groups or with the assistance of your peers, the expectation is
that everyone’s solutions will be those of his/her own. If numerous solutions/answers are identical to those of a classmate, or to those of
other sources (such as the textbook’s author), a grade of zero will be given for that problem set.
