Blue Uptake Call 24 March 2016 @ 2pm CET BlueBRIDGE receives funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 675680 www.bluebridge-vres.eu Objectives • STEP 1 – Call 24th March 2016 • Collect feedback on the structure of the website • Collect feedback on the main message of the website • Collect feedback on how to cluster the services • STEP 2 – Agreement by email on the proposed new structure (week 4-8 April ??) implementation • STEP 3 – Meeting on sustainability 14 April • STEP 4 - Review of the service description A look at analytics Most viewed Organic search Benefit and cost analysis in aquculture enterprise Bluebridge services Farm investment opportunity in saudi arabia International investors on aquaculture projects vres european home vres.com 244 re-directs to the iMarine Gateway (average of 40 per month) www.bluebridge-vres.eu Key messages 1. BlueBRIDGE delivers services 2. The services support the phases of the knowledge production chain 3. The services are for different users (science vs business) 4. The services can be used across scientific disciplines, between public and private sector 5. There is a focus on ecosystem approach to fisheries & aquaculture Braddock Spear said that to be an Ambassador, they need to have some talking points. The consortium must spend time refining greatly the concrete messages that Ambassadors can adopt. ACTION FOR US – PREPARE PPT for EAB Leo: the concept of service is "overloaded" and - the concept of VRE is almost absent. At the end of the story BB is called to develop a number of VREs thus this concept should be a "first class citizen"; PMBret: I think we should continue to talk about the 7 or 9 VREs as "services" and for the rest we have to talk about "tools" which are integrated to the services (VREs). For example: Stock assessment = Service // Taxonomic naming matching = Tool // Data Analytics = General Functionality «Services operated through VREs» New text for the home page Mariagrazia Graziano asked what the consortium means when we talk about “knowledge ”. PROPOSAL 1. Innovative services supporting the knowledge production chain (the data life cycle?) across disciplines and sectors Funded under the H2020 framework, BlueBRIDGE develops web-based Data Analytics, Discovery, Access, Integration and Publishing services i.e. Virtual Research Environments. BlueBRIDGE supports decision-makers and investors to make informed decisions in both scientific and business contexts, for example in the fields of aquaculture and ecosystem approach to fisheries. PROPOSAL 2. Innovative services for fisheries, aquaculture and beyond Funded under the H2020 framework, BlueBRIDGE develops web-based services (i.e. Virtual Research Environments) covering the knowledge production chain from data harmonisation and analysis to the production of indicators to support decision-makers and investors. The services can be used across scientific disciplines, between public and private sectors. PROPOSAL 3. Providing collaborative web-based services to support the generation of new knowledge Funded under the H2020 framework, BlueBRIDGE develops web-based services (i.e. Virtual Research Environments) covering the knowledge production chain from data harmonisation and analysis to the production of indicators to support decision-makers and investors. The services can be used across scientific disciplines, between public and private sectors. www.bluebridge-vres.eu About | News | Events | Publications Sign up Service Catalogue Services for Data & Technology Use Cases Engage with us NEW MENU Service Catalogue About | News | Events | Publications Service Catalogue Services for Data & Technology DROPDOWN MENU – See slide 9 &10 Use Cases Engage with us Service Catalogue – current state • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Virtual Research Environment Builder Data Analytics Framework Data Discovery, Access and Integration Framework Data Publishing Framework Social Networking Framework Stock Assessment Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries Performance Evaluation in Aquaculture Strategic Investment Analysis Aquaculture Atlas Generation Protected Area Impact Maps Scientific training environments Bionym: a flexible and customizable taxonomic naming matching workflow consulted monthly more than 10,000 times Biodiversity Lab: a virtual laboratory where biologists, ecologists, and environmental scientists can easily perform data access, data harmonization, data preparation and data analytics Scalable Data Mining: a virtual laboratory designed to apply Data Mining techniques to biological, ecological, and environmental data. The algorithms are executed in a distributed fashion on the e-Infrastructure resources or on local multicore servers. Scalability is thus meant as distributed data processing but even as services dynamically provided to the users Tabular Data Lab: a virtual laboratory created to provide its users with a working environment supporting the management of tabular data, i.e. any dataset that can be represented in a table format. In particular, the environment offers a suite to import, curate, analyse, and publish tabular data resources in a collaborative way FAO Tuna Atlas: a specialization of the Tabular Data Lab, offering tools to harmonize, and standardize multiple data source on tuna and bill fishes catches to feed the FAO Atlas of Tuna and Billfish Catches and the Global Tuna Catches by Stock Vulnerable Marine Ecosystem (VME) DB: a VRE exploited by FAO to prepare Vulnerable Marine Ecosystems (VME’s) factsheets in the High Seas WECAFC Regional Database in support to WECAFC Fishery Management Plans: a virtual laboratory supporting the collation and harmonization of national datasets required to support assessment of WECAFC’s spiny lobster, queen conch, flying fish, and groundfish and shrimp assessment working groups, as well as monitoring tools required for adaptive management of those fisheries. website DoA Why do we have these? Are they specific for FAO/WECAFC?? Service Catalogue – proposal for a new structure PROPOSAL A - Data Analytics - Data Access, Discovery and Harmonisation - Data Visualisation and Maps Production - Virtual Research Environment Builder - Domain specific VREs - VREs for scientific training environments PROPOSAL B - Aquaculture Atlas Generation – under development - development - Services are "unitary" components, no matter the VRE they originate from or the VREs they are expected to serve. Each ideas??? it should be clear service should be a Other sort of micro-service, what is the functionality it offers. I would expect to see a long list of services. For each service we can make use of "tags" thus to classify them according to diverse perspectives. One of these tags can be used to implement the "Services for" discussed in Slide 11. Performance Evaluation in Aquaculture – under development Leo: - proposal A sounds having classes of services rather than single services; - proposal B mixes VREs and some services; VRE/VLab are "organised" set of services for serving a given scenario. They are mainly characterised by a goal and a community. The list of services is "what" a VRE offers. Biodiversity Lab - ready to use Global Record of Stocks and Fisheries – under Protected Area Impact Maps – under development Scalable Data Mining – ready to use Scientific training environments – ready to use Stock Assessment – under development Strategic Investment Analysis in Aquaculture – under development - Tabular Data management - ready to use Taxonomic naming matching – ready to use Virtual Research Environment Builder – ready to use Nicolas Bailly had said that we need to think about a communication message adapted for the different layers of the hierarchy, the service layers, the administrators, etc. We need to have a multi-layered catalogue of services. This is needed at the EC level otherwise there is fear that there is overlap between the projects and what is being accomplished. Example, EMODNET does X, BlueBRIDGE does Y, each knows what they do, but the EC doesn’t.
