Still University’s Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health (ATSU-ASDOH) is pleased to present to you our Fall 2011 Continuing Dental Education (CDE) outline of courses. Our CDE program continues to expand as we begin our sixth year. Courses are designed for the entire dental team, and we encourage you all to join us in our state-ofthe-art facility. We believe that our dental school is an essential partner to our practicing dental community. Our goal is to provide high-quality, cost-effective, local, CDE opportunities. Dean, Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health 1 General Information Registration – Course registrations are accepted by mail and online. All registrations are processed in the order in which they are received and as space permits. Registrations will not be processed without full payment. Payment may be made by check (payable to ASDOH) or credit card. Walk-in registrations will be accommodated as space permits and are subject to a $25 late registration fee. Course Location – All courses will be held on the campus of A.T. Still University, 5835 E. Still Circle (Dental Administration) or 5855 East Still Circle (Clinic), Mesa AZ 85206, unless stated otherwise. Day of Course – Registration begins 30 minutes prior to course start time. Light breakfast will be provided at time of registration. Participants in hands-on courses are responsible for providing all required equipment and supplies as stated in course brochure. Lunch will be provided for all full-day course attendees. Continuing Education Credit – Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. Continuing education credits are awarded on an hour-for-hour basis. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Participants will receive verification of attendance at the conclusion of each course by email. Discount Policy – Participants registering for five or more courses may take a 20% tuition discount on all qualifying courses. ASDOH alumni and Affiliate alumni may take a 10% discount on individual courses. Tuition for all discounted courses must be paid in full at the time of registration. Refunds will not be granted for discounted courses. If a class is rescheduled by the participant, the course fee can only be transferred within that specified CE brochure time period. Discount does not apply toward auxiliary tuition. Refund and Cancellation Policy – A tuition refund, less a $50 cancellation fee, will be issued for notice of cancellation up to 14 days prior to a lecture course and 21 days prior to a hands-on or limited attendance course. Refunds cannot be given for missed courses. The Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health Continuing Dental Education Program reserves the right to cancel any course which does not receive sufficient enrollment. It challenges the student with learning to motivate patients to request aesthetic/cosmetic procedures in today’s economy. Learn about state-of-the-art materials and techniques and how they can make your practice easier, more profitable, and more enjoyable. It will include aesthetic dilemmas and how to solve them, fixed and removable aesthetic prostheses, and conquering space by creating illusions. The course includes the use of the latest concepts of remineralization and caries treatment. The bottom line for participation is a discussion of clinical techniques performed to aid the student in achieving a higher acceptance of case presentations in general. Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to: 1. Identify how and where to use the newest materials. 2. Demonstrate the differences between total and self-etch systems. 3. Discuss and improve case presentation skills leading to higher patient acceptance. 4. Discuss common side effects, including oral side effects, of neuropsychiatric medications. 5. Articulate how to solve aesthetic dilemmas. 6. Good ergonomic equipment is important to prolong your ability to do your work but most important is how your body is operating within that work environment. This interactive seminar provides tools to change the way you stand, move, and work. When you understand how your posture affects your well-being, you can prevent yourself from becoming a statistic! How you sit, stand, bend, walk, breathe, move and sleep affects your fatigue and energy levels. This action-packed seminar covers body mechanics for daily living, in your work environment, and in your recreational or sports activities. Handouts are provided on alignment exercises, giving you an active stretching routine to help you manage your body during your workday. Learning and using these routines will give you the skills to change your symptoms should discomfort occur. You will learn how to adapt your body to your specific work situation. We’ll give you tips on protecting your employees as they assist you. You’ll also gain skills to help you improve the quality of your workouts! Additionally options for no-prep and minimalprep veneers as well as step-by-step veneer cementation will be demonstrated. Learning Objectives 1. Identify the advantages and disadvantages of different materials. 2. Describe Prep-less veneers and when they can be utilized. 3. Explain a step-by-step veneer cementation technique. Session Title: Understanding the “Platinum Age” Options for Aesthetic, Metal-free Dentistry, Part 2 Session Description: This session provides options available and indications to provide metal-free dentistry to our patients including lithium disilicate, Lucite reinforced ceramic, pressed and CAD ceramics, and zirconium oxide. Session will also include a cementation update on ideal cements for different materials. Learning Objectives Upon completion of this program, course participants will be able to: 1. Identify different ceramics available that allow providers to satisfy patient aesthetic desires while maintaining function. 2. Patients with complex medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, chronic kidney disease, atrial fibrillation, stroke and prosthetic joints/devices are becoming more common in general practice. These patients are often on extensive drug regimes including anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy. A presentation of current guidelines and evidence-based recommendations will be followed by an audience participation discussion of actual patient cases. Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to: 1. Explain best practices for managing dental patients with chronic medical conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, stroke, atrial fibrillation and chronic kidney disease. 2. Communicate the current published guidelines regarding antibiotic prophylaxis for patients with prosthetic joint replacement. 3. Identify current AHA antibiotic prophylaxis guidelines for patients with specific cardiac conditions. 4. Summarize the current recommendations for patients with other implanted devices. 5. Explain the evidence-based recommendations for treatment of patients on anti-coagulant and anti-platelet therapies. Designed to review the most important components for the administration of local anesthesia, the student will become aware of anatomy issues to consider prior to anesthesia administration in addition to the proper treatment of medical emergencies. Learning Objectives At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to: 1.Complete a thorough review of head and neck anatomy. 2. Explain dental anesthesia techniques. 3.Review of common dental injections and techniques. 4.Identify and perform appropriate treatment of medical emergencies. 5.
