Transcript
On Tuesday, the 5th of February, 2013, a lady named Marion de Grijs
visited us during English class to tell us about the Greek Gods and Goddesses.
She came from a museum in Leiden, The National Museum of Antiquities.
Marion told us about the Greek Gods and their history, where they
came from, their family, their symbols, etc. Not only did she tell us about the
12 Greek Gods but she told us about a goddess that is not very well known.
Her name is Hestia, goddess of hearth. She takes care of your home. Her
symbol is a fireplace and she is one of Zeus’ siblings.
What I learnt from Marion is that there are more Greek Gods and Goddesses
than those main 12. I also learnt that we have 4 seasons, Summer, Winter,
Autumn, and Spring, because of Persephone. Persephone is the goddess of
harvest. Hades forced her to stay in the Underworld with him, but Zeus asked
to have her back, because without her, no one could eat because there is
no harvest. So Hades agreed to let her out of the Underworld with her mother,
Demeter, during Summer and Spring, but with Hades during Winter and
Autumn.
A recommendation from me is to go to The National Museum of
Antiquities in Leiden. It has things from Ancient Egypt and Rome such as the
Egyptian Temple of Taffeh and a few mummies. You can learn a lot about
Ancient Egypt, Rome and Greece in this museum.
