The twelve Olympian gods
The Greek gods you probably don't know very much about them. Can you name the twelve
Olympians? Can you tell people what each god/goddess stands for?
There are the big three they are all children of Cronus and Rhea after each child was born Cronus
swallowed them to keep them from over ruling him. Because they were immortal they never digested.
Zeus was never swallowed when he was born Rhea replaced him with a rock. When Cronus was
defeated the earth was split into three parts. Zeus got the sky Posiden got the sea and *Hades got the
underworld.
Then there are the others Hera queen of the gods goddess of marriage she likes to take revenge on
Zeus’s other lovers . Demeter Goddess of wheat and agriculture lets everything die in the winter
because her daughter Persephone has to spend that time with Hades. Athena Goddess of wisdom useful
crafts, weaving and science emerged from Zeus's head full grown in battle armor.
Apollo god of light, archery, prophecy, inspiration, poetry, medicine, healing, music and art. Artemis
goddess of archery, hunting, the moon and all animals has a hut were she makes girls immortal(unless
fallen in combat)if they swear off boys. Ares god of war, violence and blood shed. Aphrodite goddess
of love, beauty and desire is married to Hephaestus but likes to have affairs with others like ares.
Hephaestus god of blacksmith, fire and forge.
Hermes messenger of the gods god of communication, borders, thieves and games. Hestia goddess of
the hearth home and comfort. Dionysus god of wine and celebrations was original a mortal but made a
god when he invented wine. Then there are the others that aren't technically Olympians like Hebe
goddess of youth invented ambrosia and nectar (the drink and food of the gods). Persephone queen of
the underworld stays with Hades for six months of the year because she ate six of the twelve
pomegranate seeds given to her while she was kidnapped in the underworld goddess of spring time.
