ADVNACED OPTIONS IN SEARCH ENGINE “GOOGLE”
How to search on Google
Google is one of the most used search engines. In future, you may also collect lot of
information it for various purposes. For fun, entertainment, knowledge or serious
work.
So it will be better to know and learn a few tips and tricks to help you easily
find information on Google.
Tip 1: Start with the basics
No matter what you're looking for, start with a simple search like where's the
closest airport?. You can always add a few descriptive words if necessary.
If you're looking for a place or product in a specific location, add the location. For
example, bakery Vijayawada.
Tip 2: Search using your voice
Tired of typing? Say "Ok Google" or choose the microphone icon to search using
your voice. Learn more about "Ok Google" and voice search.
Tip 3: Choose words carefully
When you're deciding what words to put in the search box, try to choose words that
are likely to appear on the site you're looking for. For example, instead of saying my
head hurts, say headache, because that’s the word a medical site would use.
Tip 4: Don’t worry about the little things


Spelling. Google's spell checker automatically uses the most common spelling of a
given word, whether or not you spell it correctly.
Capitalization. A search for New York Times is the same as a search for new york
times.
Tip 5: Find quick answers
For many searches, Google will do the work for you and show an answer to your
question in the search results. Some features, like information about sports teams,
aren't available in all regions.






Weather: Search weather to see the weather in your location or add a city name,
like weather Delhi, to find weather for a certain place.
Dictionary: Put define in front of any word to see its definition.
Calculations: Enter a math equation like 3*9123, or solve complex graphing
equations.
Unit conversions: Enter any conversion, like 3 dollars in euros.
Sports: Search for the name of your team to see a schedule, game scores and more.
Quick facts: Search for the name of a celebrity, location, movie, or song to find
related information.
Search operators
You can use search operators and other punctuation to get more specific search
results. Except for the examples below, Google Search usually ignores punctuation.
Punctuation & symbols
Even though you can use the punctuation marks below when you search, including
them doesn’t always improve the results. If we don't think the punctuation will give
you better results, you'll see suggested results for that search without punctuation.
Search operators
Search operators are words that can be added to searches to help narrow down the
results. Don’t worry about memorizing every operator, because you can also use the
Advanced Search page to create these searches.
Using symbols in Google search is a trick and you need to exactly understand the symbols recognized
by Google. For example, searching “mango!” is considered by Google simply as “mango” without any
additional filtering. Symbols can be used to confine search results only when you know how to use
them. This article explains some of the easy to use symbols in Google search to refine your search
results.
– “ Dash ”
Minus or dash or hyphen symbol is used to remove specific words from Google search results. There
are many ways to restrict the search using dash symbol. If you do not want the search results to include
a specific site then use the query like “news -site:cnn.com”. This will exclude CNN from the search
results and show all other relevant results.
Dash symbol can also be used to exclude a specific word from the search. For example, “LG -tv” will
show the results go all LG products except TVs.
$ “ Dollar ”
Dollar symbol is used to get the products with the price in $ mentioned in the search query. Search “LG
$1000” to get all products from LG with the having price tag of $1000.
Using $ Symbol in Google Search
+ “ Plus ”
Plus symbol is mainly used to search Google+ pages. For example, searching for “+webnots” will return
the Google+ page belongs to this site. If the search term has a broader results or meaning then all
related results will be shown in addition to Google+ page. + symbol is also used to search blood
groups independently or combined with other words. Example: donors ab+ blood
@ “ At ”
The @ symbol is used to find relevant social tags mainly from Twitter and other social platforms having
usernames starting with @. Searching “@webnots” will show the first result from Twitter user profile
along with other results from social sites.
Getting Twitter Profile with @ in Google Search
# “ Hash ”
Hashtag is mainly used by social media sites to group together all relevant posts containing a particular
word prefixed by #. For example, searching “#storytime” will display all related articles having the
hashtag “#storytime”.
_ “ Underscore ”
Underscore is the symbol in Google search used to connect two words. When you search “get_start”
Google will return related pages having either “get_start” as it is or connected as “getstart” without the
underscore.
” “ Quotes ”
Double quotes are used to force Google searching the exact words or phrase mentioned within the
quotes. For example, “fox and crane” will results all pages containing this phrase. Google also uses
synonyms of the words within the quotes, as in this example you can also see results for “fox and stork”.
Using Double Quotes in Google Search
* “ Asterisk ”
Asterisk symbol is used for wild card searches in Google. It can be used multiple times in a single
query and used within quotes. Searching “Fortune * the bold” with quotes will show pages containing the
exact phrase in the same sequence replacing * with any other word like “favors”.
.. “ Double Dots ”
Want to search for the TVs from $1000 to $2000? The double dots will do the trick in Google search. It
is used as a range operator to find all relevant results within the specified range. Search “TV
$1000..$2000” to get all TV products between $1000 to $2000 range.
Using Ranges in Google Search
Similarly range operator can also be used to filter the search results for dates and measurements like
kilometer, liter, etc.
Some more advanced operators:
Operator
site:
How to use it
Get results from certain sites or domains.
Examples:
olympics site:nbc.com and
olympics site:.gov
related:
Find sites that are similar to a web address you already know.
Example: related:time.com
OR
Find pages that might use one of several words.
Example: marathon OR race
info:
Get information about a web address, including the cached version of the page,
similar pages, and pages that link to the site.
Example: info:google.com
cache:
See what a page looks like the last time Google visited the site.
Example: cache:washington.edu
Note
When you search using operators or punctuation marks, don't add any spaces between
the operator and your search terms. A search for site:nytimes.com will work, but
site: nytimes.com won't.

SECURITY
Google Chrome Security
Google Chrome web browser has a lot of features for increased security. Here we will
discuss the initial Google Chrome Security Settings. These Google Chrome security
settings help to protect your computer form spyware, malware and viruses. They also
help to protect your private information from other people.



Google Chrome Malware Protection Settings
Google Chrome Pop ups Settings
Google Chrome Password Manage Settings
Google Chrome Cookies Settings
Google Chrome Malware Protection Settings
The Google Chrome web browser comes with a Safe Browsing feature. That feature
help to increase Google Chrome security against malware.
It's enabled when you select the 'Enable phishing and malware detection'
option and is designed to protect your computer and your privacy. By default your
Google Chrome web browser has already enabled this feature but you can disable or
enable this feature as you wish.
Google Chrome Pop ups Settings
Pop-up ads or popups are a form of online advertising on the World Wide
Web intended to attract web traffic or capture email addresses. It works when certain
web sites open a new web browser window to display advertisements.
Some pop-ups messages are used to get viruses onto your computer. They will
cause to harm your Google Chrome browser and computer settings. So by default
Google Chrome blocks pop-ups.
When you visit a web site which wants to display a pop up, Google Chrome
will notify to you that there is a pop up message. You can choose to remove this
notify message if you would rather not see it.
Google Chrome Password Manage Settings
Google Chrome can save user names and passwords for websites you sign
into. It can then auto fill the sign-in fields when you next visit these websites. To save
your user name and password Google Chrome asks you after you submit a user name
and password to a site.
If you click "Save password" button in the message, your password is saved. But the
important thing to remember is if you are saving your passwords, other people can
easily access your accounts. If you press "Never for this site" button in the message
your password is not saved and you will not be asked again.
Google Chrome Cookies Settings
Cookies are files created by websites you've visited in order to store browsing
information, such as your preferences for the website or profile information. It's
important to be aware of your cookie settings because cookies can allow websites to
track your navigation during your visit to the website and can decrease Google
Chrome security.
SOFTWARE USEFUL IN DESIGNING
WEBPAGE
For years Adobe Dreamweaver has been synonymous
with webpage creation.
it is, quite simply, the world's most powerful Web editor.
It's gone from being a creator of HTML pages in a
WYSIWYG interface to being able to handle programming
pages in PHP, Cold Fusion, JavaScript, and more. Its liquid layout lets you see how pages look
at different browser and screen sizes—even on smartphones and tablets. It's about as codeheavy as you want it to be.
 GIMP
GNU Image Manipulation Program is the most powerful free photo editor available
on almost all major platforms. It can import and edit PSD files and convert them to
any format. It has extensive feature support for layering with lots of community
support.
 Firebug
This open-source tool is an add-on in Mozilla’s Firefox browser. The application
debugs and edits CSS, HTML, XHR and JavaScript in any website.
 Foundation framework
Foundation is a responsive web design framwork that can be used as a starting point
for your web designing projects, It is a quick prototyping tool . It uses flexible grid
layout that can scale out to an arbitrary size
 Cage
Through online design collaboration, Cage eliminates inefficient emailing that occurs
between workgroups and designers when sharing creative work. Using this web tool
can lead to faster approvals, smarter revisions and better communication among the
workforce.
DETAILED MAP OF HOW INTERNET WORKS:
ABOUT CLOUD STORAGE
Comedian George Carlin has a routine in which
he talks about how humans seem to spend their lives
accumulating "stuff."
Once they've gathered enough stuff, they have to
find places to store all of it. If Carlin were to update that
routine today, he could make the same observation about computer information.
It seems that everyone with a computer spends a lot of time acquiring data and
then trying to find a way to store it.
For some computer owners, finding enough storage space to hold all the data
they've acquired is a real challenge. Some people invest in larger hard drives. Others
prefer external storage devices like thumb drives or compact discs.
Desperate computer owners might delete entire folders worth of old files in
order to make space for new information. But some are choosing to rely on a growing
trend: cloud storage.
While cloud storage sounds like it has something
to do with weather fronts and storm systems, it really
refers to saving data to an off-site storage system
maintained by a third party.
Instead of storing information to your
computer's hard drive or other local storage device, you
save it to a remote database. The Internet provides the
connection between your computer and the database.
On the surface, cloud storage has several advantages over traditional data
storage. For example, if you store your data on a cloud storage system, you'll be able
to get to that data from any location that has Internet access.
You wouldn't need to carry around a physical storage device or use the same
computer to save and retrieve your information.
With the right storage system, you could even allow other people to access the
data, turning a personal project into a collaborative effort.
So cloud storage is convenient and offers more flexibility, but how does it work?
Owning Up
One issue that information experts, computer scientists and entrepreneurs debate is the
concept of data ownership. Who owns the data stored in a cloud system?
Does it belong to the client who originally saved the data to the hardware?
Does it belong to the company that owns the physical equipment storing the data?
What happens if a client goes out of business?
Can a cloud storage host delete the former client's data? Opinions vary on these
issues.
There are hundreds of different cloud storage systems. Some have a very
specific focus, such as storing Web e-mail messages or digital pictures.
Others are available to store all forms of digital data. Some cloud storage
systems are small operations, while others are so large that the physical equipment
can fill up an entire warehouse. The facilities that house cloud storage systems are
called data centers.
At its most basic level, a cloud storage system needs just one data server connected to
the Internet. A client (e.g., a computer user subscribing to a cloud storage service)
sends copies of files over the Internet to the data server, which then records the
information.
When the client wishes to retrieve the information, he or she accesses the data
server through a Web-based interface.
The server then either sends the files back to the client or allows the client to
access and manipulate the files on the server itself.
There are hundreds of cloud storage providers on the Web, and their numbers
seem to increase every day.
Not only are there a lot of companies competing to provide storage, but also
the amount of storage each company offers to clients seems to grow regularly.
You're probably familiar with several providers of cloud storage services, though you
might not think of them in that way.
Here are a few well-known companies that offer some form of cloud storage:







Google Docs allows users to upload documents, spreadsheets and presentations to
Google's data servers. Users can edit files using a Google application.
Users can also publish documents so that other people can read them or
even make edits, which means Google Docs is also an example of cloud computing.
Web e-mail providers like Gmail, Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail store e-mail messages on
their own servers.
Users can access their e-mail from computers and other devices connected
to the Internet.
Sites like Flickr and Picasa host millions of digital photographs.
Their users create online photo albums by uploading pictures directly to the
services' servers.
YouTube hosts millions of user-uploaded video files.
Web site hosting companies like StartLogic, Hostmonster and GoDaddy store the
files and data for client Web sites.
Social networking sites like Facebook and MySpace allow members to post pictures
and other content.
All of that content is stored on the respective site's servers.
Services like Xdrive, MediaMax and Strongspace offer storage space for any kind of
digital data.
INTERNET FILE FORMATS:
While downloading files and viewing websites, you’ll meet up with many file
formats. Most are common, and encountered frequently, others are more obscure and
require specialist programs to open or use.
Here, we have a list of the file types, along with the applications you’ll need to get
them going on your computer.
AVI — Audio/Video Interleaved :
Standard video format supported on the windows platform. They do not stream,
however, so you have to download the entire file before you can watch any of it.
Use » Windows Media Player or pick up WinAmp or QuickTime.
CSS — Cascading StyleSheet :
CSS files are a tool in the repertoire of webmasters that take care of how their
websites look.
CSS files can be created or edited in any text-editor, like Notepad. Try »
TopStyle Lite too, it includes loads of selectors for easy editing
EXE — EXEcutable file :
If you download a program that you need to install, it will likely come as an exe file.
Just double click it to install on your PC.
Be careful of viruses!
GIF — Graphics Interchange Format :
The most common image format on the Internet.
Good for simple images.
RAR — RAR archive :
This is a compressed file format similar to the popular .zip format.
It sports advanced functions like special multimedia compression and has many
benefits over zip files.
JPG/ .JPEG — Joint Photographic Experts Group file :
Another very common image file format, mainly used for photos.
MOV/ .QT — QuickTime MOVie :
The QuickTime format was designed by Apple and originated on the Mac, but has
made the transition to the PC and is hugely popular.
