Where We Are By Jamie Brand 1 2 3 4 5 ¶1 The Solar System is the Sun, and all the objects that go around it. There are eight planets in our solar system. We live on the third one, Earth. All the other planets get their names from Roman gods. 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 ¶2 The first four planets are terrestrial planets. They are made of rocks and metal. The first planet is Mercury. It is the smallest planet. The second is Venus. Venus is usually the brightest planet. It is also the nearest planet to Earth. The fourth planet is Mars. It is a red colour. Sometimes you can see it in the night sky. Some scientists want to send people to Mars. 15 16 17 18 19 ¶3 The last four planets are called gas giants. They are very large. They are mostly made of gas. Jupiter is the fifth planet in the Solar System. It is the largest. It is more than 317 times as heavy as the Earth. It has 63 moons. The sixth planet is Saturn. Saturn is the second biggest planet. It has rings around it. The rings can be seen with a telescope. 20 ¶4 Uranus and Neptune are the last two planets. Uranus takes 84 years to 21 go around the sun. Neptune is blue. Uranus and Neptune both have rings but 22 they very are difficult to see. 23 24 25 26 ¶5 There are many other objects in our solar system. Most of the planets have moons. There are asteroids and comets. There are also dwarf planets. These are smaller than normal planets. Pluto is a dwarf planet. Until 2006 people thought it was a planet.
