Key terms • America First Committee The foremost and biggest non-interventionist pressure group fighting against the American entry into World War II. • American Neutrality Act The Neutrality Acts were laws that were passed by the United States Congress in the 1930s in response to the growing turmoil in Europe and Asia eventually leading to World War II. They were spurred by the growth in isolationism and non-interventionism in the US following its costly involvement in World War I, and sought to ensure that the US would not become entangled again in foreign conflicts. • Appeasement A diplomatic policy of making political or material concessions to an enemy power in order to avoid conflict. • Arsenal of Democracy "The Arsenal of Democracy" was a slogan coined by President Roosevelt, in a radio broadcast delivered on December 29, 1940. Roosevelt promised to help the United Kingdom fight Nazi Germany by giving them military supplies while the United States stayed out of the actual fighting.
