Lesson Plan
Complex Numbers and Roots
Objectives Define and use imaginary and complex numbers. Solve quadratic equations with complex
roots.
Common Core Standards: CC.9-12.N.CN.1 Know there is a complex number i such that i2 = –1,
and every complex number has the form a + bi with a and b real.CC.9-12.N.CN.2 Use the relation
i2 = –1 and the commutative, associative, and distributive properties to add, subtract, and multiply
complex numbers.CC.9-12.N.CN.7 Solve quadratic equations with real coefficients that have
complex solutions. CC.9-12.A.CED.1 Create equations and inequalities in one variable and use
them to solve problems.
Monday- Go over the Review sheet given out on Friday for Assessment on section 2.5
Begin section 2.6 The Quadratic Formula
p. 105 2- 12 all show all of your work for the quadratic formula

The Quadratic Formula
Objectives Solve quadratic equations using the Quadratic Formula. Classify roots using the
discriminant.
Common Core Standards: CC.9-12.N.CN.7 Solve quadratic equations with real coefficients that
have complex solutions. CC.9-12.A.CED.1 Create equations and inequalities in one variable and
use them to solve problems.
Tuesday - p. 105 18 – 29 all
Wednesday – Review for 2.5, no HW
Thursday – Assessment on section 2.5
Friday – p. 105 14 – 16 and 30 – 35 all
