TALK LIKE A SCIENTIST
Blood vessels which carry oxygenated blood.
Artery:
Blood vessels which carry de-oxygenated blood.
Vein:
I DO: Parts of the Heart
Directions: Let’s label together the key parts of the Circulatory
System. The key terms that we need to find are Right Atrium, Left
Atrium, Right Ventricle, Left Ventricle, and Superior Vena Cava.
Blood Vessel
Function
Artery
Carries blood with
oxygen
Vein
Carries blood without
oxygen
Capillary
Carries individual blood
cells to individual body
cells to bring oxygen

WE DO: Blood Flow
The blood can flow through the heart in two different ways:
Through the lungs
Through the rest of the body
When you take someone’s blood pressure you test for:
Systolic – pressure in arteries when ventricles contract
Diastolic -pressure in arteries when ventricles relax
Another way to say this is hypertension or hypotension
Blood: The blood within your body has 3 main Functions:
A. Transport oxygen
B. Fight infections
C. Regulate temperature

YOU DO: Blood Cells
Red Blood Cells
White Blood Cells
Most numerous
Larger than red blood cells
Formed in the bone marrow
Fight off invading organisms (pathogens)
Carry oxygen and nutrients to body and waste back
Release antibodies to help identify pathogens
Filled with the protein hemoglobin, which contains iron
Destroy damaged/infected cells
Directions: Label the heart below with the words in the word bank.
