Circulation and Gas Exchange
1. Label on the diagram where the veins,
arteries, capillaries are located.
2. Label which vessels are oxygenated
(carrying O2) by colouring them red and
which are deoxygenated (carrying CO2) by
colouring them blue.
3. Label the following large veins and
arteries: Superior Vena Cava, Inferior Vena
Cava, Aorta, Pulmonary Artery, Pulmonary
Vein
4. Label the following parts of the heart:
Right Atrium, Right Ventricle, Left Atrium,
Left Ventricle

The Heart
1. Atria:
2. Ventricles:
3. Why is the left ventricle bigger than the right ventricle?
4. Carefully label the following diagram of the human heart then lightly colour in the parts of
the heart that have oxygenated blood with red and the deoxygenated blood with blue.
5. What is a valve? Put a star on the heart above in every place that you would find a valve.
6. Insert arrows (   …) above to show how blood moves through the heart. Make sure
you know where blood enters and leaves the heart.
7. Answer on a separate piece of paper. Write down the order of blood flow through the
body & heart (see chart below) starting with the deoxygenated blood in the Body Cell
Capillaries. Use these words: right atrium, left atrium, right ventricle, left ventricle, aorta,
superior vena cava, inferior vena cava, pulmonary vein, pulmonary artery, lungs (capillaries),
arties, veins, arterioles, venules
Blood Flow:
1. Body Cell Capillaries (blood becomes deoxygenated)2.Venules3. _ 4.__&__5,6,7,
 8. Lung Capillaries (blood becomes oxygenated)9.  10  11.  12  13  14
 15. (back to #1 Body cell capillaries)
