Families and Households.
An analysis of the family relationship to the social structure and social change
including changing patterns of marriage, child bearing, childhood and gender
roles.
Education and Sociological Methods
An examination of the role and purposes of education and investigation of the
causes of differential achievement. How do Sociologists do Research. The
application of research methods to the study of Education.
Theory and Research
Students investigate various research methodologies and the theories that
support them.
Year 13
Crime and Deviance
Investigating who commits crime and how it might be influenced by factors such
as class, age, gender, ethnicity and locality. Sociological theories and methods
and their application to the study of crime.
Beliefs in Society*
Learning about how systems of belief, including those of science and religion
affect both the individual and society.
Or
Global Development*
Students are expected to be familiar with sociological explanations of various
issues relating to development studies, including global inequality, demographic
change, international and cultural relationships and trade and aid.

Additional information about the course
We aim to give students real understanding of the Criminal Justice system by
having visits by Magistrates and visits to working Courts at the end of Year 12 in
preparation for their Y13 Crime and Deviance course.
