TRC RADF GRANT APPLICATIONS FOR ROUND 15 – OCTOBER 2015
There were ten queries about funding for Round 15 resulting in three applications being
received. The quality of applications was again good this round with applications to fund
community and cultural tourism projects. A summary of applications is provided below.
Applicants:
1
Juergen Freund – Produce time lapse video of spectacular Tablelands scenes Category 4 Cultural Tourism - In a 3 to 5 minute video, a cross section of what
makes the Tablelands unique and spectacular will be captured through time-lapse that
will make one realize how totally amazing it is to see the Tablelands in this unique
manner. The short video will enthrall audiences with the many different natural aspects
of the region namely: Forests; Fig trees; Fungi; Storms brewing and lightning displays;
Crater Lakes; Outback, etc. This will promote the Tablelands as a special location
destination for tourists (local; inter-state & overseas) as well as for filmmaking (as per
Goal 7.3 of the Cultural Plan). The final outcomes aim to have local cinemas show this
short film during their previews before the movies start. There is positive response from
Bernie Rayner for the Majestic Theatre in Malanda and the Rising Sun Cinema in
Mareeba as well as the outdoor theatre in Chillagoe Observatory and Ecolodge. The
project will also produce a DVD that will be a saleable item available to the general
public. View a short demo video at https://youtu.be/ibwkOGtAw3o - Successful -$6,000

Atherton Performing Arts– Development Through Drama - Category 2 Building
Community Cultural Capacity – The FNQATA (Far North Queensland Amateur
Theatrical Association) One Act Play Festival has been held annually at a different
venue in Far North Queensland. In 2016, Atherton Performing Arts will be hosting the
event for the Festival’s 60th anniversary. The weekend will comprise the staging of a
number of one act plays with accompanying critiques and the facilitation of drama
workshops. There will be three Workshops focusing on skills used during performances.
For the first time at a FNQATA One Act Play Festival there will be a workshop that
directly targets children and youth. They will be involved in ‘creative play’ activities,
improvisation and theatre games, relating to performance skills. A second workshop will
focus on improving vocal skills on stage and the third workshop on plays presented
and/or other scripts. Participants will explore the techniques of actioning the text,
shaping a scene and text analysis for performance. These scripts will be used so that
participants will be enabled to further develop and direct plays. - Successful -$2,175
3
Colin Trigwell – Raptors and Landscapes of the Atherton Tablelands - Category 4
Cultural Tourism – Photographing on the Tablelands for many years Mr Trigwell has a
large catalogue of unpublished work that he believes would be of great interest to
ornithologists and visitors. The grant is to assist in getting this material into the
published form of an eighteen month calendar, allowing a longer shelf life for selling and
also displaying more photos that would also include Tableland landscapes. The
development of raw photos into print ready edited photos would be a major part of the
project as well working with a local graphic designer to design the calendar layout ready
for publishing by another local business. Sales and marketing would be provided by
Two Rivers Marketing, who have worked on projects for the Tablelands Regional
Gallery and TRC . They have an already established distribution network all the way
from Port Douglas to Townsville. A calendar launch and exhibition would be held at the
Council Foyer Gallery in June 2016 and would include framed prints of all the photos in
the calendar Successful -$4,997
