LER 2298 S f p o e s e t r a P ocket Chart ch P Components: 2 Double-Sided Posters, 17" x 11" 20 Noun Cards 20 Verb Cards 20 Adjective Cards 21 Blank Cards 3 Title Cards Setup Use the large window located at the top, of the pocket chart, to store and display posters. Each poster corresponds to a set of 15 cards. (The poster and corresponding cards have the same color border.) There are 5 cards for each part of speech. Place the 3 parts of speech title cards in the window of the storage pockets as shown. For convenient storage, organize all the noun, verb, and adjective cards in the storage pockets. Understanding the difference between nouns, verbs, and adjectives. Display a poster in the top of the chart. Discuss what is happening in the picture. Have the students tell you what they see in the picture. Explain that the words they are using to describe the picture are different parts of speech. Great for every classroom! As a class, come up with different words, using each category that they see in the picture. Parts of Speech Review A noun is a word used to name a person, place, or thing. Example: boy, car, bear, school, zoo A verb is a word that expresses an action. Example: run, laugh, sing Adjectives are words that are used to describe a noun or pronoun. Example: green grass (the adjective “green” describes the noun “grass”) Other Ways to use the Pocket Chart: Make your own posters and have students create different parts of speech cards that describe the poster. Key for Each Poster Blue Poster Nouns: map, money, glasses, globe, desk Verbs: sing, point, read, sit, write Adjectives: yellow, tiny, large, loud, round Orange Poster Nouns: car, tree, boy, baseball, sun Verbs: run, hit, smile, play, catch Adjectives: green, small, sunny, happy, fast Red Poster Nouns: teacher, student, apple, flag, bus Verbs: write, read, listen, teach, carry Adjectives: red, pointy, sharp, snowy, cold Purple Poster Nouns: school, slide, ball, umbrella, mitten Verbs: stand, sit, eat, hop, jump Adjectives: pink, sunny, cold, tall, big Have students make their own posters to test the class on the different parts of speech.
