Postdoctoral research positions are available in Dr. Ivan Still's research group in the Department
of Cancer Genetics to study the role of a novel family of evolutionary conserved proteins in
oncogenesis. Recently, we identified the TACC (transforming acidic coiled coil containing) family,
which has now been implicated in cell signaling pathways which can lead to cellular
transformation (Still IH, et al Oncogene 18:4032-4038, 1999, Still IH, et al Genomics 58:165-170,
1999, Gergely F, et al Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci USA 97: 14352-14357). Current research projects
address the normal role of the TACC proteins in cellular metabolism by identifying proteins which
interact with the TACC family members, the effect of alterations in TACC expression on cell
signaling events, and screening tumors for mutations in the TACC genes.
Applicants are expected to have or to soon complete a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry,
or other appropriate discipline. Successful candidates would be expected to have a strong
background in one or more of the following areas: cell biology, biochemistry/protein purification,
or molecular biology.
The Department of Cancer Genetics occupies a suite of newly renovated laboratories at the
Roswell Park Cancer Institute's Cell and Virus building. The Department has full access to the
RPCI core facilities including microarray analysis of gene expression, gene targeting, and
transgenic technology.
Interested candidate should send a CV with names and addresses of three referees to:
