2016/2017 STEAM PROJECT
GRADE 6
DUE DATE: NOVEMBER 10.2016
CHOOSE ONE FROM THE FOLLOWING TWO PROJECT TASKS.
1) MAKE YOUR OWN TELESCOPE
A telescope is an optical instrument that aids in the observation of the remote objects
by collecting electromagnetic radiation (such as visible light). The first known telescopes
were invented in the Netherlands at the beginning of the 1600, by using glass lenses.
Telescopes have helped astronomers see into the depths of outer space.

Your task is to design and build a telescope that can help you see better through the
night sky.
Below are some suggested websites that can help you build your own telescope. You are
welcome to look into other websites through the internet.

2) MAKE A ROTATING SOLAR SYSTEM MODEL
Our solar system consists of an average star we call the Sun, the planets Mercury,
Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. It includes: numerous
comets, asteroids, and meteoroids; and the interplanetary medium.
Your task is to design and build a rotating solar system that illustrates the correct order
of planets, their relative sizes and the rotating nature of the planets orbiting around the
sun.
