Circuit Creations Surface Mount Device Practice Kit 110 Introduction Welcome to the exciting world of Circuit Creations electronics kits. To assemble this kit you will need the following basic items- 25W to 40W soldering iron, rosin core flux solder, tweezers to hold and manipulate components, and possibly a magnifier to assist with seeing the smaller components. This kit contains over 50 common SMD (Surface Mount Device) components providing a great opportunity to learn and practice assembling with surface mount electronics. There are 7 different SMD component types and similar components are easy to identify by the quantity of each type provided in the kit. To test that you have assembled the kit correctly, the circuitry functions as an LED (Light Emitting Diode) flasher. Whether you’re a beginner interested in practicing, experimenting, or learning about surface mount electronics or a professional interested in teaching, training, or adjusting SMD reflow process parameters this kit is a great fit. Surface Mount Device Practice K110 Features Over 50 SMD components with ample spacing to facilitate assembly on the printed circuit board Each component type is clearly marked and located in sections on the printed circuit board Includes 7 types of common SMD components in a variety of sizes Compact, 2.2” x 1.7”, single sided Printed Circuit Board (PCB) with 4 mounting holes LED indicator flashes to test that you have assembled the kit correctly Operates from a 9V battery (not included) Circuit Assembly There are many good references and videos on the web (e.g. search for “smd soldering tutorial”) to assist with assembly of surface mount electronics. The assembly instructions for the components that are included with Kit K110 are as follows: Designator U1 C1-C15 C16-C20 R1-R20 R21-R30 LED1 Q1 J1 Value SOIC14 0603 Capacitor 0805 Capacitor 0603 Resistor 0805 Resistor 0805 LED SOT23 Transistor 9V Battery Clip Assembly Instructions Notch in package must match notch printed on the PCB, or dot on top of package must be on the same side as the dot on the PCB. Always exercise caution when connecting the K110 circuit to any other circuit. To test that you have assembled the circuit correctly connect a 9V battery (not included) so that the LED flashes. The LED color and flash rate can vary from kit to kit. There is sufficient spacing around each component so that it can be observed, probed, or measured to further enhance your skill and understanding of surface mount electronic components.
