“Placing water resources management at the heart of global policy responses to climate change” INVITATION: MEETING WITH NEGOTIATORS Time: 30th November, 7.00 PM Place: Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Reef hotel, Cancun Dear XXXX On behalf of the Water and Climate Coalition, it is our pleasure to invite you to a meeting to discuss the role of water-related issues in the international climate regime. The meeting will take place at 7pm on 30th November at the Fiesta Americana Grand Coral Reef Hotel, Cancun (link to map). The objective of the meeting is to provide a space for discussions among and between delegations on various options to strengthen the focus on water under the UNFCCC, including in its subsidiary bodies and associated financial mechanisms. The meeting will also explore possible initiatives on water and climate outside the Convention that may inform the negotiations taking place inside the Convention. Proposed items for discussion include: A possible work programme on water under the UNFCCC Strengthening language on water in the negotiating text on adaptation under the AWG LCA Securing adequate finance for adaptive water management The role of Partnerships and initiatives outside the Convention in promoting adaptive water management, including the Adaptation Partnership These agenda items build on the Water and Climate Coalition’s ‘Key Asks’ document for COP16, attached to this letter. The meeting is being convened and chaired by the Water and Climate Coalition, and was organised with the generous support and collaboration of CONAGUA. Drinks and a light buffet will be served at the meeting. To RSVP and for any other questions, please email Hanna Wolf at the Water and Climate Coalition – [email protected]. Yours sincerely, Karin Lexén Director at SIWI Hannah Stoddart Head of Policy and Advocacy, Stakeholder Forum “Placing water resources management at the heart of global policy responses to climate change” About the Water and Climate Coalition The Water and Climate Coalition is a global coalition of organisations seeking to place water resources management at the heart of climate change policy. Formerly known as the Global Public Policy Network on Water Management (GPPN), the coalition operates at a global and intergovernmental level in UN-related processes to integrate water and climate policy. It worked actively in the run up to COP15 in Copenhagen, and continues to engage with the negotiations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
