What are the tectonic plates effects on geography?
The Silfra is a deep rift between the Eurasian and North American tectonic
plates – it just happens to be in Thingvellir Lake in Iceland. And with the lake’s
clear water, supplied by glacial melt, it’s easy for divers to swim down into the
Silfra and get amazing photographs like this.
Thingvellir Lake and the eponymous park surrounding the lake are part of
Iceland’s “Golden Circle” of natural wonders. Adventure seekers can start the
loop from Reykjavík and see geysers, waterfalls, hot springs, and Thingvellir’s
rift valley all in less than 200 miles of travel.
