Reporting to:
Prof. A.A. Popov
The Purpose of the New Role:
To carry out structural analysis and design of structures and components for the prototype of a new
rotorcraft and to support the University of Nottingham’s research and development programmes in the
area of aerostructures. Specifically, the role will involve stress, vibration and dynamics calculations by
simplified models for structural analysis and by developing and validating advanced computer models
and simulations for aerospace structures made of metallic and composite materials. It will be part of
the engineer’s responsibility to interact with both research and industrial partners and to prepare
reports and necessary documentation for material and component qualification and aircraft
certification.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
 Develop models and simulations of structural behaviour, perform detailed structural analyses under
static and dynamic loading and against set design requirements, and prepare plans for testing of
components and structures.
 Interact with the Research Partners and Industrial Partners to establish design requirements, load
cases, specifications and criteria for evaluation and modification of design solutions.
 Participate and contribute to multidisciplinary design optimisation and concurrent engineering tasks
with relevance to the design and manufacture of aerostructures.
 Report to key stakeholders, and liaise with relevant IfAM personnel for technical reviews, project
planning and reporting (as required) and communicate issues and outcomes of the project to the
assigned project manager.
 Prepare reports and documentation for qualification and certification of aircraft components and
structures.
 Support the exploitation of results through the identification of new IP and/or publications.
 Participate and present at relevant meetings.
 Any other duties appropriate to the grade and role of the post holder.
