JOB DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, the Medical Assistant is responsible to assist the Provider, Nurses, Patient Service Representatives, Front Office Coordinator, and
Practice Administrator/RN in support of delivering expert medical care to our patients. Day-to-day activities will vary from greeting and interacting with patients,
answering phone calls, collecting intake information, performing point-of-care testing, all while executing our goal to provide top-notch patient care. Overall, the
Medical Assistant has a direct interaction with patients and an integral component in helping deliver our mission of bringing ER expertise to life's little
emergencies.
ABOUT US
 Urgent Care Specialists, PC, is owned and operated by local physicians with ties to the community. Our physicians have extensive emergency medicine
training and experience. We are a full service private Urgent Care Center with on-site lab and digital x-ray. Our goal is provide patients prompt, professional
and personalized care.
 Our practices is open 355 days per year, 7 days per week to better serve our patients and community and we offer extended evening hours. No
appointments necessary and we accept the majority of insurance plans with no referrals needed.
 Overall, the medical assistant has a direct interaction with patients and an integral component in helping deliver our mission of bringing ER expertise to
life's little emergencies.
REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal team member will have prior relevant experience in a similar or same environment, 1-3 years preferred. Completion of a technical/vocational training
school program with either: CMA, AAMA, RMA, or CCMA Medical Assistant certification; Emergency Medical Technician certification; Licensed Practical Nurse;
Nursing Student with one year of clinical coursework completed; or Radiologic Technologist; as well as a high school diploma or equivalent required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Provides exemplary customer service; greet and treat all patients, visitors, and coworkers with courtesy and discretion.
 Communicates in a courteous, professional, cooperative and mature manner.
 Answers telephone calls in a timely and polite manner; either responds to inquiry or directs caller to appropriate personnel while entering appropriate
clerical notation into practice management software.
 Maintain and document accurately on patients record of care, both electronic and paper chart.
 Enters confidential personal health information into computerized system with a high rate of accuracy.
 Scans all patient clinical encounter documents into practice management system and labels appropriately per protocol.
 Complies with federal and local laws in ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality
 Rooms patients: Collecting clinical intake information, which includes medical history, medications, and allergies, capturing Vital signs
 Gathering information relative to the presenting illness or injury
 Perform and complete patient testing including EKGs, Visual Acuity, Height, Weight, Venipuncture Specimen Collection
 Collect and performs Point-of-care testing, including: influenza, Strep. A, urine dipstick, urine pregnancy, mononucleosis, RSV
 Application of pre-fabricated splint and other Orthopedic durable medical equipment to patient with instruction of use
 Administering medications, including intramuscular Injections proficiently.
 Assisting providers with procedures setup and during procedures as required
 Reviewing visit summaries and home care instructions with patients including prescriptions provided and work or school notes as well as follow-up care.
 Provide after visit follow-up phone calls to all patient, and relay any diagnostic testing results.
 Ensures that equipment and supplies necessary to carry out patient care activities are available and usable and the environment is clean and organized
 Assisting Front Office Staff with patient clerical tasks as needed.
 Perform other tasks as delegated by the Provider, Nurse, Front Office Coordinator, or Practice Administrator/RN.

It is essential that a successful Medical Assistant will possess the above mentioned skills and proficient background required as this is not a direct entry level

Education and/or Experience - High school diploma or equivalent; Must have previous customer service and/or medical office experience.

Language Skills - Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; Ability
to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills - Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability - Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form; Ability to deal with
problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills - To perform this job successfully, an individual should be able to operate a computer in order to accurately enter data into a database,
search for information, send and receive email and attachments; must use the internet to access electronic prescription system, research insurance
information, etc.
Other Skills and Abilities - Must be able to alphabetize and file accurately; Type words and numbers quickly and accurately; must comply with HIPAA
confidentiality standards when accessing or communicating patient information.
NATURE OF WORK






Job duties are routine in nature, but situations may vary occasionally: policy and procedure provide direction for solving non-routine situations. Employee
is expected to consult management for any situation for which precedent does not exist.
Job duties involve routine interaction with patients, including providing assistance and limited direction. Contacts are generally, cordial and nonconfrontational.
May be required to perform the duties of other employees, including coworkers and their assigned duties, in their absence, either temporarily or longer
as necessary.
May be required to perform duties and responsibilities not listed in this description, on a temporary or long-term basis as assigned.
May be required to work and accept a flexible schedule to meet the demands and needs of the practice.
It is essential that our staff is able to fulfill a requirement to work weekends and equally shared operational holidays per company policy.

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT





While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, lift, and listen.
The employee will need to answer telephones and may sometimes need to speak slowly and clearly to patients often times needing to speak loudly to
patients.
Occasionally the employee will need to carry or lift items over 50 pounds.
The work environment is medical facility that is a professional, clean environment, in which HIPAA is to be taken seriously.
Exposure to blood borne pathogens and chemicals are present such as in any clinical setting.
