USING DEFAULT VALUES TO STREAMLINE DATA ENTRY If you use portfolio rules for Portfolio Manager Views, Portfolios tab Views or Smart Sets you could find that details upon which those rules are built can be missed when entering a new portfolio. Managing Portfolio and Group details can be streamlined by making use of default values for portfolio, group and custom fields by having key pieces of data automatically assigned when a new portfolio or group is defined. There are two kinds of details that can have default values assigned: standard details for portfolios or groups and custom fields. Online This document discusses using default values to assist in the management of Portfolio Rules, which are based on portfolio and group details and custom fields. Portfolio Rules can be used for Views and Smart Sets. For more information about working with Portfolio Rules, see Working with Rules. STANDARD PORTFOLIO AND GROUP DEFAULT VALUES Use the Portfolio and Group Default Settings to assign default values for key pieces of data in the standardized portfolio and/or group details. In the Portfolio Defaults dialog, similar to the example to the right, you will find settings that could be common or similar to several portfolios or groups such as advisors, matching methods, billing specifications, models, targets and benchmark collections. Using the portfolio and group defaults for settings that you apply to several portfolios or groups at once can save you time – and reduce errors – with data entry procedures and rule, view and smart set management. For more information about using the Portfolio and Group Defaults settings dialog see Portfolio Defaults Settings. To learn more about the portfolio and group details demonstrated in the dialog, see: Entering Portfolio Details Entering Portfolio Group Details DocumentID: SPT012472 Last Updated: September 5, 2012 CUSTOM FIELD DEFAULT VALUES When creating new custom fields, use the Default Value setting to assign default values for key custom fields you plan to use for client segmentation and management. In the Define Custom Portfolio Fields dialog, similar to the example to the right, the custom fields are assembled into a grid and the default value for each field is located in the Default Value column. When a new portfolio or group is defined, the default value is assigned to the or group, as appropriate For more information about using the defining custom portfolio fields and using the default value setting, see Defining Custom Portfolio Fields.
