Talk for Writing
Use story maps - using pictures and a few key
words.
Encourage children to tell/ act out their
stories.
Children can build upon other's ideas and
become familiar with different structures of
writing.
The stories become embedded in their
memories which means their writing can flow
much more quickly without having to pause and
think of new ideas.
Genres of Writing
Non Fiction
• Recount
• Non chronological report
• Persuasive
• Discussion
• Letter
• Diary
• Autobiography and Biography

Spelling
It is important to note that spelling at the end of
KS2 is only accounted for in the spelling test.
Children's spellings are not assessed in the
writing task. We encourage children to use
adventurous vocabulary regardless of spelling, as
long as the spelling is plausible and used in the
correct context.
