Position: Managing Director Name of Firm EnerWise Africa Name of Staff Joe Asamoah Date of Birth 2 September 1951 Nationality Ghanaian Key Qualification: Dr Asamoah is a specialist in the development of energy, oil and gas, Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and environment projects with extensive research, project management, scenario development and strategic planning skills. He has a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) (Hons) degree in Chemical Engineering from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana. Joe completed a Master in Business Administration (MBA) from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1993. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Degree in Environmental Engineering with focus on Energy, Environment, Natural Gas, Techno-Economics and Sustainable Development from the University of The Witwatersrand (Wits), Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr Asamoah has over 11 years industrial experience, mainly in the technical, environment, quality control, project management, production and management fields with various firms including Firestone Ghana Limited, Tarkwa Goldfields in Ghana, as well as with the Transkei Mining Corporation in South Africa. He was the Manager of the South African National Low-Smoke Fuel Programme from 1995 – 1998, while working as the Chief Energy Specialist at the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME), Pretoria, South Africa. In the DME, Dr Asamoah was involved in crafting policy, operational, commercial and regulatory documents/instruments for energy resources. He has done extensive work - research, writing articles, advocacy and consultancy services - on the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), the Kyoto Protocol and has undertaken mitigation and adaptation projects under the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). Dr Asamoah was the first Convenor of the Activities Implemented Jointly (AIJ) & the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Working Group of the South African National Committee on Climate Change. The Working Group was the clearing-house for AIJ and GEF projects in South Africa. Furthermore, he served as a member of the ad hoc International Working Group on the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) that primarily looked at building Public-Private Partnerships on the technical, financial and institutional issues under the Kyoto Protocol. He is a consultant at EnerWise Africa. He is quite adept at human capacity and institutional building. Dr. Asamoah is a Council Member (Scholar) of the Gerson Lehrman Group – the biggest global online consulting firm.
