Biochemistry Department Faculty of Agriculture Zagazig University Dear Dr. Dhiraj A Vattem, Editor-in-Chief It is a pleasure to submit my article entitled “Soybean glycinin basic subunit inhibits methicillin resistant-vancomycin intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA-VISA)” to be kindly considered for publication in your journal [International Journal of Applied Research in Natural Products]. The present work was undertaken to isolate and identify a methicillin resistant-vancomycin intermediate Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA-VISA) strain by both phenotypic and molecular techniques to be a model target for the potential inhibitory action of GBS either in vitro or in minced beef meat. The glycinin basic subunit (GBS), isolated from soybean protein inhibited vigorously VISA P59, as qualitatively visualized by agar well diffusion method. The antimicrobial activity of GBS against VISA was stable over a wide pH range and under different incubation temperatures. It could prevent the in vitro growth of VISA P59 at 37 ºC for 4 days and inhibited almost 99% of viable growth of VISA P59 in minced beef meat stored at 37 ºC for 14 days. No animal toxicity was observed with GBS. So, this material may be of particular interest when devising strategies for controlling the antibiotic resistant bacterial strains.
