So, 50 years - more than two life sentences so they say! But for The Phoenix
Theatre, 50 glorious years, going from strength to strength and still growing
of course. The road has not always been smooth and some obstacles
mammoth in proportion, but here we are, stronger than ever.
The fact that we are, however, is due, in no small way to you, our patrons,
many of whom have supported us through thick and thin.
Join with us this year then in celebrating our history and in preparing
for another 50 years!

The Picture of Dorian Gray
Fresh from a West End run of ‘The Trials of Oscar Wilde’, European Arts
Company returns with a thrilling adaptation of Wilde’s only novel
’The Picture of Dorian Gray’.
Set in the decadent world of Victorian London, a beautiful,
narcissistic young man called Dorian Gray becomes infatuated
by the exquisite portrait that Basil Hallward has painted of him.
He makes a Faustian pact that he will remain forever young while
the picture grows old. Combining drawing room comedy and Gothic
horror, this is a gripping and hugely entertaining theatrical event.
With an album of new studio material and single releases in the
pipeline, the future is looking extremely bright for Cheryl, Mike & Jay
formerly of Bucks Fizz. The prospects are bubbling over as Cheryl
excitedly declares “New representation, new tour, new singer, new
merchandise, maybe a new album... A new beginning!
Originally put together as the perfect winning act, Bucks Fizz went
far beyond their original Eurovision remit and as one of the biggest
selling bands of the 80’s, became a global phenomenon. Making
Your Mind Up became a number One hit across the world selling
more than four million copies... The legendary skirt-ripping routine
propelled them to overnight success, charting at No.1 in many
countries beyond the UK with countries like Japan, New Zealand,
South Africa and Australia falling to Bucks Fizz’s charms.
“Paradise Regained” will be their most comprehensive tour since
the 80’s, with more than 70 dates in the UK, Ireland, Europe and
beyond... including Australia, where in spite of not being part of
Eurovision territory, Bucks Fizz had a massive following. It will be the first
time the band have performed there since 1986.

The band’s original line-up was classic Eurovison, two boys, two girls
- a formula established by ABBA, to whom Bucks Fizz were inevitably
compared. Having performed together since 2009 when Cheryl
Baker and Mike Nolan reunited with Jay Aston, the trio are being
joined for their “Paradise Regained Tour” by a fourth vocalist
- coincidentally called Bobby. The fourth member of 1981’s
Eurovision winning line-up was Bobby G.

in this wonderful one- woman show from Louise Roche, writer
of ‘Girls Night’. “Great writing, very real and wonderful acting.”

Joe Longthorne
This talented artist began his career over three decades ago
with appearances on Junior Showtime, followed by a grounding
on the tough Northern club circuit.
His big break came in 1981 when he was a finalist on London
Weekend Television’s Search for a Star - this lead to appearances
at the London Palladium with Bob Hope and The Talk of the Town.
A short time later, Joe received the Variety Club of Britain award
as Most Promising Artiste of the Year. Television specials in the UK
and USA followed.
Joe’s repertoire of voices is endless and includes hundreds
of the world’s top singers, however, he is perhaps best known
for his mpersonation of Shirley Bassey who has commented,
“Joe can do me better than I can do myself”.
During his career, Joe has received gold and platinum discs
for his albums, enjoyed sell-out concerts at the Royal Albert Hall,
as well as touring Australia several times.
Now, Joe is looking forward to new challenges, new songs
to sing and new audiences to thrill.
