Leadership and Management
Discussions of leadership often distinguish it from management. Individuals also vary
greatly in the people they perceive as leaders or managers. This exercise gives you the
chance to recall and assess people you believe are managers or leaders.
The exercise has two parts.


Part I asks you to recall a person you perceive as a manager. You then describe
that person using lists of traits, behaviors, and characteristics commonly
associated with management and leadership.
Part II asks you to recall a person you perceive as a leader. You use the same
list of traits, behaviors, and characteristics to describe that person.
