Teach them why they are there Our Calling: I Thess. 2:4 “…we speak as people approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel.” “Youth Ministry without a vision becomes a youth group” “A ministry without a vision becomes an obligation” Remind them how God operates Tiger’s Leadership Rules It’s NOT about you It’s about you Therefore: Fight their excuses, fears and barriers Discuss: What are the real barriers to building a team of shepherds in your context? Barriers in them: • • • • • Insecurity Feelings of inadequacy Everyone is busy Their past experience as a volunteer The Church’s understanding of your role • Fear of the audience • Feel overwhelmed • Unclear about how to succeed Teach them to always focus on the person “We loved you so much that we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God, but our lives as well, because you had become so dear to us.” 1 Thessalonians 2:8 Building A Team • Get Practical • Be specific • Be clear “Vagueness is killing the Church” NOW WHAT? • Don’t Assume • Repeat, repeat, repeat • Get really practical • Affirm it when you see it • Share stories of it in action Practical Examples • No Clumping • Fight the parent voice • Watch for the shield • SAFFE • 3-2-1 • Yours???
