As you read the chapter, make sure you can answer, identify, or explain the following:

Note Japanese aggression in China, and how the League of Nations reacted.
Note Italian aggression in Ethiopia, and how the League of Nations reacted.
In 1936, what did Hitler do in the Rhineland? How did the League of Nations react?
What is appeasement, and why did France and Britain try to appease Hitler?
Note the Axis powers:
Describe the two sides in the Spanish Civil War: Nationalists and Loyalists.
Who helped Franco in the Spanish Civil War? Who helped the Loyalists?
Note Hitler’s aggression in 1938:
What did he mean by “Living Space” (Lebensraum)?
