West Exe School: Job Description South West Teacher Training (SWTT) Programme Manager Pay Scale: L14 (£53,712) Line Manager: Headteacher Responsible to: SWTT SCITT Management Board Job Purpose: Develop, lead and manage the SCITT programme, ensuring that a high quality teacher training experience is provided for all trainees and that aspiring teachers are equipped with the appropriate skills and knowledge to enable them to achieve their full potential. This job description is not a comprehensive definition of the post. Discussions will take place on a regular basis to clarify individual responsibilities within the general framework and character of the post as identified below. The conditions of employment of teachers in the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions of Service Document apply to this post, whose holder is expected to carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require, under the reasonable direction of the Headteacher. Roles and Responsibilities: lead and create the secondary SCITT programme with a team of supporting professionals; attend Management Board meetings, reporting on the ongoing development, improvement, delivery and strategic vision of the teacher training programme; manage the programme’s finances, supported by the Finance Officer and present this information termly to the SWTT SCITT Management Board; manage the purchase of resources, including laptops, and ensure that the strategic plan for the purchase of ICT equipment and resources is set with due regard to the available budget; line manage the SWTT Administrator, including the completion of the annual appraisal process; develop and lead a marketing and recruitment strategy, ensuring the programme attracts quality applicants and remains financially viable; lead on the recruitment of SWTT trainees, ensuring the programme is compliant with safer recruitment guidance; strategic development of the course content responding to local and national needs of ITT, including all policy changes; produce training manuals and handbooks with the relevant paper work/pro-forma; provide training for ITT tutors and teacher mentors across the programme to ensure high quality support and training is being delivered in a consistent manner; provide an annual report on the effectiveness of placement schools, mentors and professional tutors, report at SWTT SCITT Management Board meetings and where appropriate, identify and implement any changes that may be required; visit partnership schools to ensure training is being delivered to agreed standards; contribute as required to the delivery of the SCITT programme; assess, record and report on students’ progress through ITT year, including analysis of data to monitor the achievement of the programme; 1 West Exe School: Job Description South West Teacher Training (SWTT) Programme Manager engage in research and maintain a good understanding of developments in the initial teacher training and continuous professional development of secondary school teachers; carry out such administrative duties as required by the programme; undertake and on occasions provide, appropriate staff development within the School; develop course resources and official documents; ensure the programme is compliant with the ITT regulations and the Authority’s audit requirements, liaising with the appropriate personnel to ensure the appropriate documentation is in place; represent SWTT and act as the first point of contact during an Ofsted inspection; attend School meetings as appropriate; oversee the School’s conference area, ensuring appropriate resources and conference rooms are available; provide day to day assistance to the trainees on any trainee related matter, including addressing issues raised in connection with their placement schools, wellbeing and ICT; develop and maintain effective working relationships with other ITT providers and external partners; lead on the co-ordinating of school led general professional studies (GPS) sessions; organise and lead on the provision of ITT taster days at the School; implement and manage the Cause for Concern procedure and where appropriate, instigate the Withdrawal procedure; manage and lead the SWTT mentors, ensuring regular and appropriate support is being provided for the trainees; ensure effective and efficient management and organisation of resources; liaise with the validating Higher Education Institution to ensure the course is delivered at masters level; liaise with external examiners to ensure examination requirements are met; ensure subject course tutors provide high quality training across all subject areas; represent SWTT at NCTL regional meetings and other consultative committees; liaise with UCAS and Schools Direct, ensuring sufficient trainee places are allocated to safeguard the financial viability of the programme; maintain links with Exeter Consortium / Exeter University, and other teacher training providers, establishing good working relationships to promoting collaborative working. The job description is an initial brief for the academic year 2016/2017 and will be reviewed annually. Any amendments will reflect the priorities of the SWTT SCITT and will be agreed following discussion with the Postholder as part of the performance management cycle. 2
