ELON Group challenges home electronics sector
– forms new buying organisation via Euronics Norway and Euronics Sweden
ELON Group continues to strengthen its strategic position as the hub for the retail trade in the Nordic
region. The wholly owned subsidiary Euronics Norway, alongside Euronics Sweden, is forming a joint
buying company: Euronics Nordic. The new collaboration will enable both companies to access better
competitive terms and a structure that meets future needs.
“There are structural changes under way in our industry, ones that call for fresh ways of thinking,”
says ELON Group CEO Christer Larsson. “Our joint company demonstrates the strength and benefits
of the retail trade. With our local presence, personal relations and high level of service, we will be a
real challenger to the market giants. We work with large purchase volumes, which means our
company will also have an impact on the consumer stage.”
The primary focus of the new company is co-ordination of the range and its volumes in Norway and
Sweden. Euronics Nordic will use EEL AB’s warehousing and logistics solution.
“Since 2014, Euronics Norway’s stores have had major and small domestic appliances supplied via
EEL in Örebro,” says Kenneth Baltzersen, MD of Euronics Norway. “Being able to use this solution
also for brown goods will entail a serious simplification in our operation.”
Peter Håkansson, MD of Euronics Sweden, has great faith in the new company as a way of meeting
the market’s demands:
“The main advantage of forming Euronics Nordic is that we are taking the step of becoming Nordic,
rather than just Swedish,” he says. “We have a new negotiation perspective, which is positive for
Nordic consumers, and with 145 stores in all we will be the biggest in the Nordics in home electronics
retail.”
ELON Group includes the chains ELON and Elkedjan with a total of 400 stores in Sweden, and Euronics Norway
with 70 stores in Norway. The Group also includes EEL Teknik with 2,000 electrical engineers across Sweden.
The stores and the Teknik service providers are owned by the traders themselves, and they are also partowners in the parent company ELON Group. Along with Euronics Sweden with its 75 stores, this is Sweden’s
biggest buying organisation and ELON Group Nordic’s largest household appliance group. Total net sales for the
companies are in the region of MSEK 6,000
excluding VAT.
Euronics Norway, Euronics Sweden and ELON Group are all members of the electrical retail organisation
Euronics International, which has more than 11,000 stores in 31 European countries and net sales of over MSEK
160,000.
