PART I: *Watch the Video and answer the following questions:
1. What is engineering?
It is the profession that applies the mathematical and natural knowledge in
order to economically utilize the materials and natural forces for the benefit
of humans.
2. Define the word Profession?
Profession is a status that requires specialized knowledge and long term
academic preparation.
3. What distinguishes professions from other occupations?
Professionals have intellectual skills that are not available to the public.
They get their special knowledge by formal education, as they need to get
the bachelor degree as a minimum requirement. Due to their knowledge and
experience, a professional is considered as an authority, and a person who
have the ability to evaluate and judge others that are in the same field of
profession. In order to be a professional, a person has to take certain license
or certifications by an authorized organization.
4. Give three examples of profession and non-profession:
– Professions: Doctors, geologists, Programmers, Software engineers.
– Non-professions: Plumber, cashier, fashion model.
5. What does it mean to be ethical?
Being ethical is to follow the code of ethics, which is acting and behaving
responsibly to meet the benefit of the client and the public.
6. Professionals have clients not customers (What is the difference)?

PART II: * Summary of the video:
In this video, D. Michael talked about the professional ethics in engineering. He
first defined the words engineering and profession. Then he stated the difference
between professions and other occupations. He mentioned the reasons why
professionals must follow the code of ethics, and specified the difference between
the customer and the client.
