Class Length: 18weeks
Class Fee: $12.00
The following is a list of assignments for this class. You are expected to finish all of these assignments by the end of the
corresponding week. All assignments should be turned in by the end of the week they are assigned. Even if you are not
finished, you will move ahead to keep pace with the class. Some assignments may be completed at home. If you finish early,
extra credit assignments are listed at the end of some weeks and at the end of the trimester.
Week 1
1. Reading pg. 50-76 in Basic Technical Drawing book.
2. Measuring with a Scale Worksheet (15 pts.)- Follow the instructions on the sheet. Measure and mark off the lengths
with your scale. Use only the 16 scale in this class.
3. Lettering Worksheets A-1 & A-2- (2 assignments – 20 pts.) Tape worksheet(s) to drawing table, squaring each up with
your t-square as shown. Complete these two worksheets using your HB pencil. Make sure the pencil is kept sharp
throughout the exercise. These assignments may be completed at home, if necessary.
4. Alphabet of Lines Worksheet C-2 (10 pts.) - See pg. 57 in your book for additional instructions. In space 1, beginning
at the starting marks, reproduce each of the given lines in the space directly below each line. Use your HB pencil for the
thick and medium weight lines and your 4H pencil for the thin lines. Start all lines at the starting marks given. In space
2, draw parallel visible lines at 15 with horizontal, upward to the right. In space 3, draw parallel hidden lines at 75 with
horizontal, downward to the right. In space 4, using your t-square and triangle, draw section lines parallel to the given
lines. In space 5, using your t-square and triangle, draw extension lines perpendicular to the given centerline.
Week 2
5. Paper Border Handout- Learn how to border your blank paper as required for drawings in this class unless instructed
otherwise. Keep this sheet for future reference.
6. Reading- pg. 50-76 of text on Mechanical Drawing.
7. Pg. 76-80 Figures 4-44 & 4-52 (2 assignments @ 20 pts.). Border your paper remembering to include full alphabet
and numerals at top using block lettering. Use diagonal method to find center of drawing area as shown. Divide vertical
and horizontal dimensions by 2 to center each drawing. Complete each drawing using a hard lead (4H), then darken with
and HB pencil. Check for gaps and tails. Use your eraser shield to remove tails. See pg. 77 for the steps for drawing Fig.
4-44 and pg. 80 for the steps for drawing Fig. 4-52.
8.
Extra Credit – Figure 4-54 (5 pts.)
Week 3
9. Reading- pg. 391-396 of text on Perspective Drawing.
10. One-point Perspective (10 pts.)- Border your paper remembering to include full alphabet and numerals at top using block
lettering. Use a lettering style similar to that demonstrated by instructor and with a 4H pencil, display your first name
in the upper portion of the drawing area and your last name in the lower portion of the drawing area. Use a vanishing
point at the center of the page and connect light lines to exposed corners of each letter. Draw light horizontal lines
approximately 1” above and below vanishing point. Finish off “back” side of letters using parallel lines and arcs where
needed. Use HB pencil to darken.
11. Two-point Perspective (10 pts.)- Border your paper remembering to include full alphabet and numerals at top using block
lettering. As demonstrated by instructor, locate center of drawing area and draw a light horizon line across page. Locate
vanishing points at each extreme end of horizon line. Draw seven blocks (buildings), starting with a single vertical line
for the front corner of each building. At least one of the buildings must have its front corner line drawn below the
horizon, so the top or roof can be seen. Draw shapes with 4H and darken with HB.
Week 4 & Week 5
12. Reading- pg. 56-57 of text on Line Types, especially visible, construction, and centerlines.
13. Pg. 81-83 Figures 4-55, 4-56, 4-58, 4-60 (4 assignments @ 40 pts). Border your paper remembering to include full
alphabet and numerals at top using block lettering. Use diagonal method to find center of drawing area. On Fig. 4-56,
center the 8-1/4” line by dividing by 2, then follow the steps as provided on pg. 81. Include centerlines in all drawings in
this packet. Make sure you are using a sharp HB pencil to produce these. Use circle template for small arcs and circles
and a compass for large ones.
14. Extra Credit - Figures 4-62 & 4-64 (5 pts. each)
Week 6
15. Reading- pg. 104-113 of text on Geometric Construction
16. Shapes (see handout)- pg. 108 (1 assignment) Border your paper remembering to include full alphabet and numerals at
top using block lettering. Use diagonal method to find center of drawing area. Use diagonal method to divide horizontal
space by 4 and vertical space by 3 to produce 12 equal sized boxes. Darken lines, then find centers of each box and draw
construction lines both horizontal and vertical through centers. Use circle template and 4H to produce 2” and 1-1/2”
diameter circles on centers. Make exterior circles 2” and interior circles 1-1/2”. The first two boxes will contain 2”
circles. Produce the equilateral triangle inside the circle, but touching at the 3 vertices. Produce the square inside the
2” diameter circle, contacting at the midpoint of each side. Produce the hexagon (j) inside a 2” diameter circle. Finish
remaining 10 shapes as shown, placing the last octagon (n) inside a 2"x2" square. Label each box with the letter and name
of the shape as shown. Use 1/8" guidelines for all lettering.
Week 7 & Week 8
17. Personal Logos (10 pts.)- Border paper with standard class border. Use diagonal method to find center of drawing area.
Use diagonal method to divide horizontal space by 4 and vertical space by 3 to produce 12 equal sized boxes. In each of
the 12 boxes, come up with a different idea for a personal logo as explained by the teacher. These can be done freehand
or with tools. But they all must be neat and professional!
18. Corporate Logos- (2 pages @ 20 pts.) Reproduce four actual corporate logos (i.e., Nike, Pepsi, Intel, etc.) scaling them
up or down to fit drawing space. Border paper with standard class border. Divide two regularly bordered sheets in half
vertically through the center and put two logos per page centering each in the space. Use your tools on these. Staple and
turn in both pages together.
19. Dimensioning Worksheet (10 pts.)- Read Chapter 10 starting on pg. 192 to fill out this worksheet. You must understand
how to dimension before your next set of drawings!
20. Extra Credit – Additional personal and corporate logos, full size, two per page (5 pts per page).
Week 9 & Week 10
21. Handout on Dimensioning Guidelines- Get from teacher. This is to help you as you dimension your drawings.
22. Pg. 117-118 (2 assignments) Figures 6-29, 6-31. Border your paper remembering to include full alphabet and
numerals at top using block lettering. For Fig. 6-29, draw a horizontal centerline at 2” above bottom inside border. Use
diagonal method to find center of drawing area for Figs. 6-31. All these assignments must have centerlines, leader
lines, extension lines, and dimensions as shown in Chapter 10.
23. Extra Credit – Figure 6-32
Week 11
24. Reading- pg. 122-135 of text on Orthographic Drawing and pg. 376-382 on Isometric Drawing
25. Surface Identification Worksheet (10 pts.)- Follow instructions on worksheet. Get from teacher.
26. Reading- pg. 122-135 of text on Orthographic Drawing
27. Orthographic Projection- pg. 137-139 (2 assignments @ 20 pts.) Ask instructor for 4x4 grid paper before beginning
assignment. Position paper in the "portrait" position. Draw border and a ½" title block as instructed in class. Divide
paper in half with a horizontal line. Two drawings per page. Label each with the drawing number. Draw front, top, and
right side views of Figure 7-27 #1 & #11 and Figure 7-28 #4 & #6. Use a straightedge for all drawings.
28. Reading- pg. 376-382 on Isometric Drawing
29. Isometrics- pg. 400-401 (2 assignments@ 20 pts.) Ask instructor for isometric grid paper before beginning assignment.
Position paper in the "landscape" position. Produce a ½” title block across the bottom as shown previously. Divide the
drawing area into two parts by drawing a vertical line in center of paper on grid. Draw isometric sketches of Figure 1744 #1, 3, 5, 6. Do two drawings per page. Label each with the drawing number. Use a straightedge for all drawings.
Week 12
30. Isometrics ½ Size Worksheet- (2 pages at 20 pts.) Reproduce the four isometric drawings on plain paper with a regular
title block. Omit alphabet & numerals block. Lightly sketch your isometric guide vertically and 30 with horizontal on
right and left as shown by instructor. Divide paper in half with a vertical line and draw two per page. Top two on first
page, bottom two on second page. Use your scale carefully to determine the dimensions of each edge.
Week 13-18
31. Isometric & Orthographic Worksheet packet- (6 sheets @ 60 pts.) Use a straight edge, HB pencil and templates as
needed to complete isometric and orthographic drawings. Follow the instructions printed on each sheet. On the two
missing lines worksheets, there are missing lines (visible, hidden, or center lines) from one or more views. Add all missing
lines using a straightedge. This packet should be taken home to complete to save class time.
32. Orthographic and Isometric Set- pg. 139 #1-3 (6 assignments @ 60 pts.) Border page with a single line 1/4" in. Each
grid equals 1/2". Draw numbers 1, 2, & 3 as orthographics. Us a 3/4" construction border to locate corners of views. Use
a 3" by 1-1/2" title block in upper right corner. Include all dimensions. See pg. 194 for a dimensioning refresher. Next,
redraw numbers 1, 2, & 3 using the isometric method shown. No dimensions required.
33. Orthographic Missing Lines- pg. 141 #1-8 (2 assignments @20 pts.) Border page with 1/4" border and 1/2" title block
across bottom. Drawings 1-4 will be done on your first sheet and 5-8 will be drawn on a second sheet. Use a 1/2"
construction line border to locate corners of sets 1-4 on page. Each grid will equal 1/4" for this assignment. Make sure
to start each drawing in extreme corner and space 1/2" between views to fit all 4 orthographics on a page. After
copying drawings, supply missing lines needed to complete each view. Repeat for numbers 5-8.
34. Isometric Cylinder #1- (2 assignments @ 20 pts.) Produce a 1/4" border with a 1/2" title block across bottom. Find
center of drawing area with diagonals. Use 30-60-90 triangle and draw a 30 degree construction line through center of
page, lower left to upper right. Find vertical divisions in cylinder and draw vertical construction lines through same
points on the 30 degree centerline. Use isometric ellipse template to produce cut cylinder with section lines at 45
degrees (Copy original). For the second drawing, repeat border and 30 degree center with verticals. Use ellipse template
to produce only the exterior of the cylinder. Do not show hidden lines in the isometric.
35. Auto-CAD 1- (1 drawing @ 10 pts.) Complete the drawing using the tutorial provided by instructor. Save drawing using
your initials followed by a number 1. Add your name and period number to the drawing before saving. Do not print
drawing, call for instructor to check drawing on the computer for your grade.
36. Isometric Cylinder #2- (3 drawings @ 30 pts.) Produce a 1/4” border with 1/2” title block across the bottom. Find
center of drawing area with diagonals. Copy the two-view orthographic drawing, but move up to center of drawing area.
Use 1” buffer from border at each end. Include all dimensions. For parts 2 and 3 of the assignment, draw a 30-degree
center/construction line from lower left to upper right. Show cylinder cut with 45-degree section lines with all
dimensions. For drawing 3, show only the exterior geometry with no hidden lines and no dimensions.
37. Auto-CAD 2- (1 drawing @ 10 pts.) Complete the drawing using the tutorial provided by instructor. Save drawing as your
initials followed by the number 2. Add your name and period number to the drawing before saving. Do not print drawing,
call for instructor to check drawing on the computer for your grade. After this assignment, you may complete the rest
of your drawings on Auto-CAD should you prefer.
38. Final Exam (50 pts.) - Final written exam will be open book.
Extra Credit: Additional drawings may be completed for 5 points each: 4-46, 4-47, 4-59, 4-61, & 6-33. Include dimensioning.
