JOB SUMMARY
Under the direct supervision of the Health Center Dental Director serves as a full performance
general dentist by applying professional knowledge of comprehensive dentistry in independently
performing the major of this role.
Incumbents in this job may have access to proprietary consumer or company information and
must maintain the privacy and confidentiality of this information. All employees must perform
their jobs with a focus on risk management, occupational safety and health, and providing
internal and external customer service. Employees working in a supervisory capacity must
practice effective human resources practices to ensure a healthy working environment.
KEY JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Incumbents in the job must be able to perform the key duties and responsibilities of the job and

Dentist
Provides diagnoses and treatment of the full range of oral diseases, injuries, and
deformities of the teeth
Educates patients on oral health care
Performs examination of teeth and diagnosing patients' dental conditions, using tools
such as X-rays
Assess with the patient all treatment options and discuss the appropriate treatment plans
with patients

Carries out agreed clinical treatments, such as treating gum disease, restoring teeth
affected by decay, etc.; jaws, and other structures and connective tissues associated with
the oral cavity and masticatory system, including routine, difficult, complex, and
emergency cases
Performs complete range of age-appropriate comprehensive corrective, restorative, and
preventive measures
Conducts comprehensive examinations and consultations using dental instruments,
radiographs, photographs, diagnostic tests, impressions, jaw relation records, diagnostic
casts, and other diagnostic equipment, to evaluate dental health,
Performs complex dental procedures, including root-end/root canal treatments,
frenectomy, occlusal adjustment, complete/partial over dentures, fixed partial dentures,
simple tooth extractions, nonsurgical temporomandibular disorders, minor tooth
movement, habit correction appliances, limited osseous resective surgery, and periodontal
flap procedures
Provides ongoing oral education
Administers local anesthetics to patients undergoing dental diagnoses and treatment, and
prescribes antibiotics and other medications.
Provides consultations on difficult cases or on advanced diagnostic and treatment
procedures
Provides direction to dental students, interns, or residents assigned for training
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position supervises: Dental Residents, Dental Assistants.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES





Dentist
Strong public health service philosophy and interests,
Have a track record (2 to 5 years) of providing quality clinical oral health services and a
high level of customer satisfaction to health the underserved
Have good people skills
Experience with electronic health record systems
Knowledge of current procedural terminology coding for dental/oral health services as
required by third party payors

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS



Must have a DDS or DMD from an accredited school of dentistry
Must be licensed to practice Dentistry in the State of New York
Must possess a current DEA registration
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The Dentist is assigned to the Health Center. Maybe required to travel to other sites based on the
needs of the agency.
