The Purpose of the Post
The role will be split between the Imperial College Clinical Imaging Facility in the
Division of Experimental Medicine and the C3NL Research Group in the Division of
Brain Sciences.
Clinical Imaging Facility
The Clinical Imaging Facility houses a Siemens Biograph 6 PET/CT scanner and a
Siemens Verio 3T MRI scanner, which are dedicated to high quality clinical research.
The PET/CT scanner suite incorporates a laboratory for the determination of
radioactivity in blood samples and also for carrying out liquid chromatographic
separations of blood metabolites and other biochemical assays.
You will work with an enthusiastic team of clinicians, physicists, biologists and
radiographers, and will be expected to build and maintain an image storage database
for PET and MRI images and ancillary data, to advise on data storage strategies and
data security, and to offer basic training and support in the use of the associated
storage software.
Key Responsibilities

Advise on suitable hardware for image and ancillary data backup and retrieval

Advise on suitable software

Assemble and validate the hardware and software

Advise on and develop data backup strategies




Advise on and train in basic system use and data security
Offer on-going support to users of the database
Undertake any necessary training as required
Any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as requested by
the line manager/head of division
C3NL
The purpose of this post is to develop and manage the computational and
administrative systems of the C3NL High performance cluster, to enable cognitive
neuroscience research within the Cognitive, Computational and Clinical
Neuroimaging Laboratory in the Division of Brain Sciences.
Key responsibilities
 To develop strategy for utilisation of High Performance Computer services
within C3NL to meet the requirements of a larger user-base and to
appropriately store the data from research studies
 Management and maintenance of the C3NL High Performance Computer
Cluster
 Liaise with C3NL research group and other users to identify appropriate
software and hardware needs
 Management of user registration
 Advise on procurement of software and hardware for the Computer Cluster
 Make recommendations regarding improvements to and use of Computer
Cluster
 Prepare reports on usage and utilisation of the Cluster as required, including
nature of usage and amount
 Analyse and solve/resolve problems and issues for the C3NL High Performance
Computer Cluster
 Undertake any necessary training as required
 Any other duties commensurate with the grade of the post as requested by the
line manager/head of division

Person Specification
Applicants are required to demonstrate that they possess the following attributes:
Qualifications



Degree in an imaging discipline with a strong computational element (e.g. PET
or MRI), or
Degree in computing science and database administration, or
Equivalent qualification and/or experience
Knowledge and Experience









Knowledge of computer server hardware and architecture
Knowledge of computer security
Knowledge of image database software
Experience of administration of RHEL / CentOS Linux
Experience of administration and maintenance of Rocks High Performance
Computing (HPC) Cluster Toolkit
Knowledge and understanding of HPC
Knowledge and understanding of cognitive neuroscience research methods
Experience of Maintenance of HPC Cluster Hardware
Knowledge and understanding of Networking for HPC

Proven competence in building image data servers
Proven competence in defining and implementing appropriate and robust
