MARINE SCIENCES
DESCRIPTION OF THE COURSE
Marine Sciences is an International master degree jointly offered by the University
of Milano-Bicocca together with the Maldives National University. Students may
choose among three different tracks - Bio-Ecology, Environment, and Human Geography - and build a tailor-made career plan. Lessons are taught in English by international faculty and scientists and are uploaded onto an online platform available
throughout the year. Practical activities are run in the Maldives at the MaRHE Center, a center for research and high education fully equipped to house students and
researchers, offering top-level scientific labs.
Enviroment
The Environment track embraces the study of abiotic and biotic components of marine
and coastal ecosystems, focusing on the understanding of short and long term interplays between physical processes and marine organisms, with emphasis on climate
changes.
BioEcology
The bioecology track embraces the study of life in the oceans and includes a broad range
of topics, from biogeography to biodiversity, marine botany, molecular ecology, biological
systematics, population ecology, management of aquatic resources, and fisheries.
Human Geography
The human geography track embraces the study of cultural aspects throughout the
world and how they relate to the spaces and places where they originate and then
travel, as people continually move across various areas.
