Post-Doctoral Position Laboratory of Infectious Diseases Division of Intramural Research National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Diseases National Institutes of Health A post-doctoral position is available at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Bethesda, Maryland, in the Laboratory of Infectious Diseases (LID), Structural Informatics Unit (SIU). The SIU seeks to elucidate the molecular architecture, function and epitope diversity of viral proteins. The research program exploits 3D electron microscopy of viruses and protein complexes to obtain structural information. Structural analyses are supported by other structural, biochemical, and immunological analyses in order to understand antigenantibody interactions and aid in both structure-assisted immunogen and therapeutic designs for infectious diseases. Additionally, the research program integrates structural and biochemical studies with bioinformatics, to facilitate a collaborative synergy between these disciplines in the context of the focus on structure-function studies of viruses and viral proteins. A major focus is on the antigenicity, structure, and function of respiratory viruses such as influenza. Ideal candidates can work collaboratively on problems related to virus structure, assembly, and vaccine development. Candidates should have a strong background in at least one of these areas: structural biology (cryo-electron microscopy or x-ray crystallography), computational biology/image, or data processing. Individuals with backgrounds in areas such as virology, protein biochemistry, vaccine development, and animal studies are also strongly encouraged to apply. Requirements: Applicants must have a Ph.D. or M.D., or equivalent, and less than five (preferably less than two) years of postdoctoral experience. The SIU of the LID is located on the main NIH campus. The NIH is dedicated to building a diverse community in its training and employment programs. To Apply: Candidates should submit a CV, a one-page research experience summary describing research accomplishments and contact information for three letters of reference.
