A Verb:

 links the subject to its description.
Action verbs express action –
something you can do!
For example:

The girl jumped over the first hurdle.

A sentence cannot exist without a
verb. There are one word sentences.

Helping verbs help action/main verbs
express precise shades of meaning.
Common helping verbs are:

Must
Fill in the blanks on your worksheet.

The combination of one or more helping verbs
with an action/main verb is called
a verb phrase.
For example:
Strong verbs can make your writing powerful.
Action verbs are often accompanied by helping verbs.
Linking verbs should be memorized.
