Scientific Officer Biopharming Research Unit (BRU) Department of Molecular and Cell Biology Faculty of Science The Biopharming Research Unit (BRU) in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at UCT has Faculty of embarked on a two-year project to produce Human papillomavirus (HPV) virus-like particle (VLP) vaccines in plants. This project will allow us to establish the necessary background parameters and requirements for optimisation of transient expression of HPV VLPs in tobacco plants. Additionally the project will also focus on developing simple purification methods for HPV VLPs. The BRU in the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology invites applications for this temporary post, available from 15th January 2014. The contract post will be for one year with a possibility of renewal for another year. Requirements include: Qualifications required are a MSc/BSc (Hons) degree. Experience in routine molecular biological techniques Computer literacy Experience in protein work, tissue culture and plant expression will be an advantage. Responsibilities include: Management of laboratory, maintenance of equipment and databases Procurement of goods and equipment Planning and conducting of experiments The annual remuneration for this fixed-term contract post for 2013 is between R180 000 and R252 000, depending on experience and skills.
