JOB DESCRIPTION Job Details Post: Apprentice Food Service Assistant - 37 hours per week/52 weeks per year - 12 month fixed term contract Grade: Apprentice Responsible to: Supervisor Responsible for: None Key Purpose: To assist in the organisation and delivery of the commercial food operation and support the catering and hospitality curriculum. Specific Responsibilities 1. Support the organisation and delivery of the commercial food operation Ensure good customer experience is maintained at all times Serve a range of customers in a number of the college outlets to help provide a range of catering experiences To assist in the preparation and service of hot and cold beverages, snacks and meals in the College outlets To prepare and fill sandwiches, rolls, baguettes and wraps on a daily basis for sale in the college food outlets. To assist the preparation of buffet items for any internal or external buffets taking place at the college. To assist with the delivery of buffets, teas and coffees around the college. Ensure that all food is prepared and served at a safe and appropriate temperature using probes where necessary and to record same. To label and date all food items correctly to ensure stock rotation is achieved in the outlets. Ensure Allergen information is known and on hand to be able to inform customers Maintain sufficient stock levels of all food and snack items being sold at any counter. Ensure that all areas in the kitchen / service area are kept clean and tidy at all times. To assist in clearing, cleaning, washing within the kitchen, including in-depth cleaning, using any approved specialised products and methods laid down. To assist with Vending duties To collect the float for the till together with a takings bag from finance and sign for these items. To check the float and be responsible for it and any takings until you return it to finance. To use the till as required during the day. This includes checking and making up of floats. To ensure that the department security is a priority at all times To aid stock taking within the total Catering Department in conjunction with the Manager 2. Health and Safety responsibilities: To maintain legal hygiene and safety requirements for food and equipment with particular responsibilities as laid down and agreed with the supervisor To observe and keep aware of Health and Safety documentation and procedures in line with College policy. 3. Other responsibilities: Fulfil at all times, the requirements within the Apprenticeship scheme To undergo training in both formal courses and on-the-job to develop service, cooking and kitchen organisational skills. Work to a range of performance indicators relevant to the service provided, in order to ensure continuous quality improvement. Assist with the implementation of plans and systems as specified within the total Quality/Continuous Improvement Strategy. Assist in the availability of flexible working hours to meet the needs of the curriculum timetables and commercial activity, including evenings and weekends. Participate in the development of a responsive customer centred approach to service delivery. General Within the limitations set out in your contract, working hours are flexible and can be subject to variation depending upon needs. They may, for example, include weekends and evenings.
