THE MATRIX SOFTWARE DEVELOPMENT COMPETITION MID SEASON-2016 The management of MATRIX has decided to conduct a Software Development Competition to enhance the software development skills among BIT students which will enable them to obtain the best pass in BIT final year project. Outline of the competition Target Group : BIT Year 1 & Year 2 and BCS Level 1 & Level 2 Project Type : Group Project No.of Teams allowed : 36 Team Members : 5 (Girls & Boys) Investment for an Individual : LKR. 4,000 Investment per Team : LKR. 20,000/= No.of Project Levels :2 Winners : 1st Prize – LKR.50, 000/=, 2nd Prize – LKR.25, 000/= & 3rd Prize – LKR.15, 000/= Certification : All participants will be given stage completion certificates How to apply? Eligible candidates must apply with their team leader and members on or before 19th September 2016. LKR. 20,000/= must be paid by every team when applying for competition. Each team must have a team leader, name and a logo (should be submitted on or before 19th September 2016). Who is eligible? Any student of MATRIX in BIT Year 1 & Year 2 and BCS Certificate Level 1 & Diploma Level How the team should be? Each team must contain 5 members (2 girls and 3 boys or 3 girls and 2 boys). The project leader must select compatible members to work throughout the project. What are the 2 Levels of the development? Level 1 o There will be 2 Rounds o There will be 6 Groups and each group contains 6 teams with 6 projects given by the Matrix Project Panel. o From 6 groups the top 12 teams will be selected for second level. Level 2 o At this level 2 teams must do a project on their own and present to the Matrix Project Panel within 14 days. o The winners and a runner-up will be selected by Panel of Judges on a given day How does the Development Level 1 happen? Round 1 All candidates will undergo mentoring sessions where Matrix Project Panel will provide the relevant background knowledge while the software development is taken place from 8th October 2016 to 23rd October 2016. Level 1 Round 1 Development starts on 16th October 2016 and finishes on 26th October 2016. Each team must present the software in front of a panel of judges on 27th or 28th or 29th of October 2016. Round 2 Candidates will undergo mentoring sessions where Matrix Project Panel will provide the relevant background knowledge while the software development is taken place from 29th October 2016 to 14th November 2016. Level 1 Round 2 Development starts on 15th November 2016 and finishes on 24th October 2016. Panel of judges will select top twelve projects and those top twelve teams will become eligible for development level 2 Software engineering techniques such as diagrams namely Use case diagram and class diagram (nearly 10 hours). Programming knowledge such as PHP and other related techniques (nearly 20 hours). Matrix Project Panel will give requirements and project specification on a meeting and each team has a chance of asking questions to clarify requirements. In first 20 minutes the specification will be explained The next 10 minutes for questions Apart from working software each team must complete 20 paged documentation of the project with following chapters. o o o Introduction Analysis Design How does the Development Level 2 happen? Every team of top 12 is given a chance to develop software on their own. The project panel will not support for background knowledge or development techniques in this stage. Level 2 starts on 3rd December 2016 and finishes on 12th December 2016. Each team must submit only the working software and any suitable presentation (PowerPoint etc.) for the project and documentation is not necessary. Each team must appear for VIVA on 13th of December as detailed below o 13th December 2016 will be allocated for project VIVA o Each team is given 15 minutes to present the project 3 minutes to setup 15 minutes to presentation 10 minutes to question 2 minutes to windup Note The judges’ decision is final and no team can appeal against the decision. This competition covers all standard practices followed in a real world project assessment, therefore team members are expected to use this opportunity to learn, practice and gather experience before they start their BIT final year project.
