November 2015 ‘Can-do’ attitude stands out at Pride of Produce World Awards A ‘can-do’ attitude and living out the Values of the Produce World Group were recurring themes among the winners in this year’s Pride of Produce World Awards. Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony Group HR Director David Frost said: “Every year these awards shine a light on some fantastic examples of individuals and teams who go over and above the requirements of their everyday jobs to deliver the products and service that our customers require. This year we have seen some great examples of exactly that, particularly in the new Customer First categories.” The Colleague of the Year Award went to Bartosz Slysz from Produce World’s Chatteris site. He was praised for his attitude during the onion harvest when he turned out at all hours to take in loads from the company’s growers. Bartosz began work at the site as an agency worker, but was so determined to qualify for a permanent position that he arranged training in his own time and at his own expense. This positive, ‘can-do’ attitude was also at the heart of the reasons for the Swinderby site team winning the Team of the Year Award. It was announced in February that all Produce World’s roots business would be transferred to its Isleham site, and the Swinderby factory closed. Despite this the team showed exemplary behaviour, ensuring all customer orders were met to the highest standards, and that there was a smooth transfer of the business to Isleham. Business Engagement Manager Sheldon Peacock from the Business Solutions Team based at Lynch Wood took time during the Christmas Holidays to develop a financial reporting system. Together with colleague Paul Hatfield from the Finance Team, he was the winner in the Outstanding Innovation category. The new Customer First categories were for an outstanding individual and team. Customer First Individual winner was Paul Wicks from the Sutton Bridge site. With a focus on customer service he brought extensive innovation to the site and drove performance improvements. Customer First Team was won by the whole of the company’s Yaxley site. In particular, it was this team’s work around transferring the organic roots business from Forres to Yaxley that won it this accolade. Every person at the site was involved in ensuring a smooth transition of this important piece of business. There were joint winners in the Community Impact award: a team from Chatteris, and a cross-site team. The Chatteris team raised more than £1000 for a local school by running the Insane Terrain obstacle course. The cross-site Kitchen Garden Team helped to restore the Kitchen Garden at Thorpe Hall, a hospice run by Sue Ryder in Peterborough . All the winners in the 2015 Pride of Produce World Awards celebrate their victories.
