How to do it
Use all of your spelling words in a story. Your story must make sense and use
everything we’ve learned about writing good paragraphs.
Look up your spelling words in the dictionary. Do not use an online dictionary. Write
the guidewords for the page you find the word on, the first definition of the word, and
its part of speech.
For each spelling word, make as many 3+ letter words as you can. For example, from
“unbearable” you can make: bear, able, near, bar, babe, real, etc.
Write an antonym and synonym for each word like this: antonym/WORD/synonym
For example: worried/ NONCHALANT/ indifferent
Reverse ABC
order
Write your words in order from Z to A. Make sure you are using reverse alphabetical
order all the way through the word.
Word Length
Write your words in order from the one with the fewest letters to the word with the
most letters.
Two Color
Words
Write each of your words with all of the vowels in one color and the consonants in
another color.
Ransom Words
Write spelling words by cutting out letters from a magazine or newspaper. Paste or
glue the letters together to create words.
Picture Words
Write the word then draw a picture of the meaning. If you can’t make a simple picture
to represent the meaning, write the word in a fancy way.

Date

Create a comic strip using your words in the dialogue. Make sure you have at least 4
boxes.
Scramble the letters of each word. Then write a clue to help someone guess the
scrambled word.
Use grid paper to make a word search using all your words.
Crossword
Puzzle
Use all of your words in a crossword puzzle. You can make your own puzzle or use a
web site like puzzlemaker.com.
Alliteration
Sentences
Write Alliteration sentences that include your spelling word. Be sure to underline your
spelling word. Alliteration occurs when a series of words begin with the same sounds.
(For example, Tania and Tony tiptoed treacherously towards the terrible tower.)
Use a dictionary to find the root/base of your words, their meaning, and other related
words. For example:

Acrostics
Poem
Make rhyming pairs with each of your spelling words. Then create clues so that others
can try to guess the right answers. For example:
Mouse/House = "a small rodents home", Damp/Stamp = "wet postage",
Legal/Eagle = "a bird in a court of law"
Write all your spelling words in cursive in a continuous line to form a picture to do
with this week’s story.
Make acrostics for 10 of your words. Write each word vertically. Use the letter on
each line to come up with a word/phrase.
Use your words to write a poem.
Keep this in your homework folder! I WILL be checking it!
