A BOARD GAME DESIGNED TO DEVELOP SPEAKING SKILLS OBJECTIVES: The game proposed in this innovation project is aimed to: introduce a new language game for players and learners of all ages make impromptu speaking and argumentative debates fun for players and learners encourage players and learners to voice their opinions enable players and learners to enhance their speaking and critical thinking skills whilst developing their confidence enable educators to use the game as warmers and fillers in the class PROPOSED NAME OF THE GAME: WHAT SAY YOU? INTRODUCTION Communication skills is ranked as one of the top sought after skills to be acquired by employees, hence, a lot more emphasis is put on learners and their ability to speak. One of the main reasons why many people don't achieve success with second or foreign languages is that, they become bored with listening texts, reading comprehension, endless grammar rules, presentations, as well as, public speaking which leads to unconducive and stressful learning environment. It is often said that students memorize sentences for presentations, basically because they are not fluent or confident enough to speak in English spontaneously. Elocution, public speaking, impromptu and debate competitions held in schools and higher education only provide practice for the proficient speakers while the less proficient speakers are subjected to the traditional English lessons in the classrooms. TARGET GROUP The game is designed for learners of all ages who lack self-confidence to communicate in the English language, talkative players, as well as, players who like to be challenged to think spontaneously. The game is user friendly and can be carried out with little or no supervision due to its easy-to-be-played concept. It is suitable for: - small group activities - ice-breaking activities - classroom activities DESCRIPTION OF PROJECT The board game allows proficient and less proficient players to have fun while making sentences, expressing their thoughts and justifying their points without realizing it. The exciting thing is that learners and players are not memorizing grammar rules, but instead, feeding their brains the knowledge of simple sentence structures and common vocabulary, as they play the game. This will also lift the stress of focussing only on accuracy and allow the players to spontaneously respond to the questions and stimulus, hence enhancing confidence. It can be played by native speakers as a fun game, or by foreign and second language speakers as a fun way of enhancing communicative skills. It can also be used to develop impromptu speech and critical thinking skills in a fun way. This board game can be played in groups of 3-6 among friends and family members or modified and used as a teaching resource in class. It is a board game with coloured cards placed in the middle of the board. Each box has a board, a 1 and 2 minute hour glass, a dice and 6 figurine tokens. A set of ‘ WHAT SAY YOU’ will consist of 2 boards. Board 1(to be played in a big group /classroom) ,Board 2(to be played in small groups), 2 time glass(1 minute & 2 minutes), a dice, 6 figurines and cards. double sided board The 2nd board is on the other side CONCLUSION Learning a target language via games is an exciting experience for students. Moreover, teachers may apply multi-modal approach using the games proposed. This will allow the students to participate in the learning process in a less stressful environment. It is hoped that this innovation project will be able to help them to build their self-confidence in using the target language and ameliorate their communicative skills related to the language Untuk maklumat lanjut mengenai Produk dan Pembelian sila hubungi: Unit Komersilan: 1.
