Course Description: Students learn data organization and structures, design of statistical data bases, statistical software analysis, importing and exporting data between software, and missing data analysis. Course Topics: Statistical data structures; introduction to SAS, SPSS, Excel interfaces Direct data input; coding missing data; data formats Computing variables/recoding variables; restructuring data; data description Creating a data file; reading SAS, SPSS, Excel data files Importing data from external sources; exporting data in other formats SAS/SPSS macro languages (optional topic) Overview of one and two-sample statistical methods: parametric and nonparametric; checking normality and equal variances assumptions One-sample methods; two-sample methods; paired data methods Categorical Data Analysis Analysis of Variance Correlation and Regression SAS (Proc IML) and SPSS Matrix Languages Proc SQL Introduction to R Random Number Generation Introduction to Simulation Simulation examples; introduction to resampling methods Fall 2014
