Annotated Biography
Primary Source:
Ncmtman, “The Four Seasons.” YouTube, 29 Jan. 2011. Web. 10 May 2011. This a famous
piece composed by Antonio Vivaldi. The Four Seasons is a piece with four parts: Winter, Spring,
Summer, and Autumn. In this particular recording, the piece was performed by I Musici, an
Italian orchestra founded in 1952 by talented musicians, one being solo violinist Felix Ayo. The
work altogether was composed to reflect the seasons in sound and passion. I chose to use this
source because this piece is the most famous for this composer. I also love the piece myself, have
played the piece, and have listened to the piece numerous times. This song was also very helpful
contribution to my analysis of the style of this great composer.

The text was taken from ideas, examples, and music from Antonio Vivaldi. Notes from pieces
are also included. I used this source in order to find out more information of the different styles
of Antonio Vivaldi. There was also helpful information about the composer himself. The
opinions of the musical exports were also very helpful.

(RV).” Music Library Association. Dec. 2008. ProQuest. Web. 14 May 2011. This source also
comes from the ProQuest online database. The information given includes the difference in notes
used by Antonio Vivaldi, the musical styles, and characteristics. I chose this source to contribute
to the style of Antonio Vivaldi, and also the different keys, majors, and minors that Vivaldi
chose. This source was also helpful for the opinions given by the musical experts. This source
was also useful in detecting a tone that leaves a Vivaldi signature.

2005. Print. This source is a guide that provides a variety of different types of musical
information. This book features a variety of musicians and terms used in the musical world.
There is also analysis of many musical aspects that were helpful to this project in particular.
Boyden, Matthew, and Nick Kimberley. The rough guide to opera. 3rd. London: Rough Guides
Limited, 2002. Print. This book was helpful because it to was a source that guides you into the
musical world. This was particularly helpful in finding out what there is to know about Operas.
Vivaldi wrote mostly for concert orchestras and groups, but he also wrote operas so I needed to
find out more about them.
Sadie, Stanley, and John Tyrrell. The new Grove dictionary of music and musicians. 26 vols.
London: 2001. Print. This dictionary was helpful because I found out all I needed to know about
the musicians of the Baroque Era. It was also helpful in finding some interesting facts about
Bach because I know that he played a huge part in the life of Antonio Vivaldi. This book not
only featured musicians but also featured interesting information about classical music that really
came in handy.
Nicholas, Jeremy. The Great Composers: The Lives and Music of 50 Great Classical Composers.
Quercus, 2009. Print. This source was very helpful because I found out all I needed to know
about the life of Antonio Vivaldi that I had no know before. I also found out about more of
Vivaldi’s works that I had not known before I read many sections of this book. Again it was also
helping in pin pointing musical techniques that I could use to describe my analysis of my
primary source.

includes a variety of information on many famous baroque music composers. Antonio Vivaldi,
Sebastian Bach, and many other composers are included. Information shared includes how
certain composers contributed to baroque music, and a little history behind this music style. I
chose this cite because it also featured Bach who is a composer who I know actually worked
with Vivaldi. I also chose this cite so that I could compare other artists to Vivaldi. The cite was
also very helpful in gaining more information on this particular music style.

2009. Web. 11 May 2011. This article was helpful because at the very beginning there was a
biography on the life of Antonio Vivaldi which was very helpful. Also the article talked a lot
about his operas (which I didn’t know much about). Also, the cite featured the titled of many of
his works.

helpful in getting me started on the life of Antonio Vivaldi. It was particularly helpful in creating
the biography of Vivaldi on my wiki. Also, the information was easy to understand and articulate
because the website is for kids, but still it was good information.

very helpful in maintaining information about the Baroque Era (which kept popping up during
my research). This article was also helpful because it mentioned many of the famous works by
Antonio Vivaldi. This was also helpful in the beginning of the development of my biography on
Antonio Vivaldi.

focuses on the section of The Four Seasons known as Winter. The video features the whole
section as opposed to only a few segments. This piece is also performed by the Italian musician
group known as I Musici. I chose this video not only because of my love for the piece, but I also
love the performance. Not only the performance in terms of music, but also the theatric
appearance. This video was also helpful in pin pointing the style of Antonio Vivaldi.

15 May 2011. This is a video features the section of The Four Seasons known as Autumn. I chose
this video to show the entire version of this part of the piece as a whole. It was also helpful in
articulating my thoughts and analysis for my primary source.
