Title: “Spring” from The Four Seasons
Composer: Antonio Vivaldi (1678-1741)
1. He was an Italian composer, virtuoso violinist, and ordained
priest during the Baroque period.
2. “Spring” from The Four Seasons is the first of a set of four
violin concertos. It was composed in 1723.
3. Vivaldi was nicknamed il Prete Rosso, Italian for “The Red
Priest,” because of his red hair.
4. The Baroque period was from 1600 to 1750. Characteristics
include elaborate ornamentation, new instrumental
techniques and changes in notation.
