The Monash Bioethics Centre is pleased to announce the 33rd running of its
annual Intesive Bioethics Course on 1 – 4 December 2017.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
PROGRAM OUTCOMES
This three day course consists of seminars, forums and discussions
led by leading experts in bioethics.
Program participants will:
The course begins with an introduction to general ethical principles
and frameworks in order to provide students with solid grounding
in ethical theory. It then proceeds to focus on application of these
principles and frameworks to some of the most important and
interesting traditional, contemporary, and emerging bioethical topics
and questions, including reproductive ethics, public health ethics,
resource allocation, organ transplantation, commodification of
human gametes, end-of-life care and decision making, research
ethics, and clinical ethics.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
The Intesive Bioethics Course is designed to provide an in-depth
introduction to bioethical thinking and the ethical issues that emerge
in related clinical and policy contexts.
It is designed for medical professionals (e.g. physicians, nurses,
pharmacists, medical researchers, palliative care workers, dentists,
dieticians, embryologists, etc.), members of human research and
clinical ethics committees, public health practitioners, hospital
administrators, health lawyers, those involved or interested in public
policy or advocacy work related to bioethics, those considering
graduate work in bioethics or related fields, and those with a
general interest in bioethics.

Gain in-depth understanding of the key ethical concepts,
principles, and theoretical frameworks which inform
bioethical analysis
■
Gain in-depth understanding of the major topics of bioethical
debate—including questions raised by new developments in
biotechnology, clinical practice, and research involving
human subjects
Apply theoretical frameworks and tools to complex practical
issues in bioethics.

FURTHER STUDIES
Participants who complete the Intensive Bioethics Course may
receive credit (upon meeting Monash entry requirements) towards
the Master of Bioethics coursework program at Monash University
if they also complete a further short piece of written assessment to
the required standard.
