NSPCC JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Senior Fundraising Manager – Direct Fundraising DEPARTMENT: Individual Giving DATE: 22nd June 2016 Context and background The NSPCC’s commitment to fight for every childhood is only made possible through the fundraising support of people across the UK, this currently accounts for over 85% of our annual income. Within our fundraising department we are committed to providing the best possible experience for our supporters through working closely with our professional fundraising agencies and ensuring that a supporter centric approach is taken in all of the work we do. The Individual Giving department is responsible for the largest single source of income for the NSPCC. Our donor base of over 1 million supporters generated over £70m in the last financial year and we expect this to be a significant area for growth in the coming years. The NSPCC has one of the largest and most sophisticated direct marketing operations in the UK charitable sector and the challenge for this role is to continue that success and to take advantage of key opportunities to make yet another substantial increase in our income over the next few years. We are looking to recruit a 1year contract to cover maternity leave. Candidates for this position should have experience that covers: Developing and managing a fundraising team Techniques and strategies for retention and acquisition fundraising Managing one to one fundraising channels Managing a range of agency and internal stakeholder relationships. Job Purpose To lead NSPCC fundraising efforts delivered through direct face-to-face and telemarketing channels. To protect the supporter experience and NSPCC’s reputation when working with professional fundraising agencies. To deliver fundraising targets through direct negotiated channels, acting as the channel centre of excellence for all NSPCC Fundraising teams To ensure a sector leading supporter experience is delivered whether through an employed or agency fundraiser To ensure marketing communications, campaigns and use of personal data by the agency partners and relevant internal teams comply with regulation and codes of practice To have accountability and responsibility for the budget and revenue objectives as described in Fundraising strategy and Individual Giving annual plans To have accountability and responsibility for the overall performance of the Direct Fundraising team Work effectively with other teams and departments in fundraising and other functions within NSPCC to maximise income for children To contribute to the leadership and direction of Individual Giving through the Individual Giving management team To manage key agency and supplier relationships Key Relationships - Internal Reports to Head of Individual Giving. Line management of Direct Fundraising team within Individual Giving function. A member of Individual Giving department senior management team. Collaborate with Fundraising campaign, supporter experience, data and insight teams. Works closely with other fundraising managers and senior fundraising managers within fundraising to develop supporters, potential supporters and business projects within fundraising. Pro-actively works closely with managers and staff in other NSPCC functions, such as, Marketing & Communications, Digital, Procurement, Legal, as necessary to further fundraising relationships and opportunities for cross departmental working Key Relationships – External Peers within the UK charity sector Professionals/trade bodies/organisations that are the forefront of direct marketing Marketing agencies and suppliers Fundraising agencies and suppliers Main Responsibilities 1. Working with the Head of Individual Giving to ensure our direct negotiated channels deliver a great supporter experience, and that fundraisers comply with NSPCC policies and standards 2. Deliver the programme channel contribution to our and marketing communications campaigns 3. Ensure high quality financial planning and reporting, working with dedicated Finance and Business Support partners 4. Work with campaign teams to optimise the contribution from negotiated channels 5. Monitor, manage, control and governance of strategic fundraising suppliers, ensuring compliance with standards and processes. Maintain close oversight and performance reporting, working with executive governance team 6. To maximise income and add value to departmental and cross market fundraising activities by sharing knowledge, specialist expertise, best practice with others as appropriate. 7. To recruit, manage and develop staff in line with NSPCC policies and practice including regular 1:1 meetings, team meetings and regular performance reviews. Also, to coach and mentor staff to achieve high performance, growth and personal development 8. To work with senior managers in other functions across fundraising such as Supporter Experience, Marketing & Communications, Digital, Strategy and Planning to develop overarching communication strategies for existing IG supporters 9. To keep abreast of industry-wide direct marketing developments and those beyond the charity sector with a view to introducing them to the NSPCC where this would drive future value. 10.To undertake specific projects as necessary and requested to support the Head of Individual Giving. Responsibilities for all Fundraising staff To be responsible for updating databases and supporter information systems on a regular basis in line with Data Protection legislation and NSPCC policy and procedures to ensure all records are up-to-date and accurate. To actively participate in regular department and team meetings, contributing to strategy, discussions and decisions which will be beneficial to the NSPCC’s development of fundraising activities. To maintain an awareness of own and others’ Health and Safety and comply with the NSPCC’s Health and Safety policy and procedures. To take personal responsibility for keeping up to date with NSPCC work to end cruelty to children. To constantly review opportunities for personal development for you and for members of the team. To act in accordance with NSPCC privacy and compliance policies, and comply with all relevant regulation and sector codes of practice. Knowledge and experience 1. Extensive direct marketing experience in a senior role either in the commercial or charity sector. This role must have had substantial responsibility for strategic development and finding new ways to drive growth in an established market. 2. Substantial experience of budget management and financial planning. Highly numerate with a proven track record of handling expenditure and income targets. 3. Extensive staff management experience and leading a team to deliver results including an ability to empower and support those who work with and for them. 4. Senior-level experience of managing and motivating agencies/suppliers to deliver exceptional results. 5. Substantial experience of success in a customer focussed environment, such as fundraising, sales or marketing. 6. Substantial experience of success in developing, delivering and monitoring strategies and plans. Personal characteristics 7. A personal commitment to ending cruelty to children. 8. Ability to deal with people at the highest level in a range of disciplines and to achieve objectives through these contacts. This will involve negotiation skills, motivation, influencing, tact, diplomacy and persuasion. 4. Highly developed leadership, management and team building skills, and working well with others as part of a team, giving support and recognising expertise in others. 5. Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage projects, organise and plan own work and the work of others to deliver objectives on time. 6.
