Cell Analogies Children’s Book Project!
You will be making a children’s book to describe and illustrate the functions of
the organelles in a cell.!
1.
Choose either a plant or animal cell. Below are the organelles that must be
included in your book.!
Animal Cell
Plant Cell
Cell Membrane

! 2.! Choose a theme and then select an everyday object that has a similar function
as each of the cell organelles required in your chosen cell. The everyday object
you select must be associated with the theme. !
! 3.! Write an analogy to show the similarity between each cell organelle and the
everyday object. *YOU MUST INCLUDE YOUR JUSTIFICATION*!
! !
Example: The nucleus is like the warden in a jail because it controls and
coordinates the activities of the cell in the same way the warden controls and
coordinates activities within the jail.!
! !
*YOU MAY NOT USE MY EXAMPLE IN YOUR BOOK*!
! 4.! Create a visual for your analogies. *EACH ORGANELLE PAGE IN YOUR BOOK SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST TWO
VISUALS: AN IMAGE OF THE SPECIFIC CELL ORGANELLE and AN IMAGE
OF THE EVERYDAY OBJECT SELECTED WITH A SIMILAR FUNCTION. **Remember this is a children’ s book so it should be colorful and easy to read!** !
Project Requirements:!
!
a.! Bound into some sort of booklet with a durable/sturdy (ex: card stock,
cardboard, etc.) front cover. The cover must be illustrated with a colorful,
labeled picture of the type of cell (plant or animal) you chose to write the
book about. You may draw the picture of the cell or print one out, but the
labeling needs to be hand written. Please do not use an already labeled
cell from the Internet. You must also include the title of your book on the
front cover as well as your name (the author) and class period. My Cell
Book or The Plant/Animal Cell Book is not an acceptable title….BE
CREATIVE!!
!
b.! Table of Contents: Indicate the theme of the book and list all 10 of the
required organelles along with the corresponding functions. You must also
include the author and page number. This must be typed! Follow my
example:!

c.!
Contents: Each organelle and analogy must have its own page. (Ex. cell
membrane + analogy = page 1, nucleus + analogy = page 2, cytoplasm +
analogy = page 3, etc...) Each analogy must be associated with the
chosen theme. Each page must also include at least 2 colorful visuals
(one of the cell organelle and one of the everyday object). !
!
d.! This project may be completed independently or in pairs. If you
choose to work in pairs, each person is responsible for completing 5 of the
10 organelle analogy pages and must include their name on the pages
they create. !
!
This project is due on _________________________________________!
and will NOT be accepted late!!
